rxtx? in INSTALL [exec] Java lib Version = RXTX-2.1-7 I'm on Arch Linux 64-bit. Doing "sudo ant run" does not show the error, unsurprisingly. However, I am a member of the uucp group, and I am surprised that I get this error. The reference to the RXTX documentation doesn't shed any light on this particular problem. Any ideas? Some websites suggest adding the dialout group, but that group doesn't exist on my computer. When I plug in the Arduino, dmesg shows this:usb 3-1.1: http://forum.43oh.com/topic/3410-error-testing-lock-file-creation/ new full-speed USB device number xx using ehci-pciThere aren't any ttyUSB or ttyASM files in /dev, but there are /dev/ttyS0, 1, 2, and 3. Last time I played with Aruino, I had to change the group for /var/lock and/or /var/run to 'lock' . At issue is the inability to set a lock to capture the serial port.BTW: You might launch the IDE from a terminal and look at the litany of errors; they give some pretty good clues as to the issue. Well, kind of.I have only run sudo arduino from a terminal. After running it without sudo, it gives these errors:check_group_uucp(): error testing lock file creation Error details:Permission deniedcheck_lock_status: No permission to create lock file. please see: How can I use Lock Files with rxtx? in INSTALLI am a member of the lock group and I have logged in/out

Bug173642 - [terminal] Cannot open serial terminal: rxtx requiring lockfiles on Linux Summary: [terminal] Cannot open serial terminal: rxtx requiring lockfiles on Linux Status: RESOLVED FIXED Product: Target Management Classification: Tools Component: Terminal Version: 2.0 Hardware: PC Linux Importance: P3 normal (vote) TargetMilestone: 2.0.1 Assigned To: Martin Oberhuber QA Contact: Martin Oberhuber URL: Whiteboard: Keywords: Depends on: Blocks: Show dependency tree Reported: 2007-02-09 09:17 EST by Martin Oberhuber Modified: 2007-10-16 14:48 EDT (History) CC List: 0 users See Also: Attachments Add an attachment (proposed patch, testcase, etc.) Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug. Description Martin Oberhuber 2007-02-09 09:17:44 EST On Redhat Enterprise Linux WS4: When I activate the Terminal view / settings dialog and switch to "Serial" connection type, I don't see any ports listed in the "Port" dropdown. On stderr, I see lots of the following message printed: check_group_uucp(): error testing lock file creation Error details:Permission deniedcheck_lock_status: No permission to create lock file. please see: How can I use Lock Files with rxtx? in INSTALL It turns out that I can fix this on Redhat by editing /etc/group and adding my user id to the "lock" group. I also need to make /var/lock group-writable. Then, rxtx creates file /var/lock/LCK..ttyS0 and no more error messages are shown. I think that the following needs to be fixed: 1. RXTX should have an option for disabling lockfiles at runtime, without having to recompile. Either via a System Property, or via some API. Some users don't have "root" access, just need to get going and dont care
