This is not a problem for us. One person cannot access it because of a, "Could Not runtime error 3050 couldn't lock file Lock File" error. The rest of us do not have this problem. Can anyone tell me how to correct this? Is the problem in the person's security or configuration of Access or in the database? Thanks. dfriend846, Sep 13,

If they were the first (only?) user then there was no problem but if they logged on as a multiple user the program could not create a lock file since they did not have write priveleges. When changed to allow write priveleges the error code 3050 could not lock file problem went away. dfriend846, Oct 2, 2005 #2 Adeyan Joined: Jan 4, 2007 Messages: 9 Thanks, exactly what i was looking for Adeyan, Jan 4, 2007 #3 glisando Joined: Jun 1, 2007 Messages: 15 I am having the same problem in my workplace too. I just took over the admistration of the database recently. There is a user who always gets the 'could not lock file' error Is giving them 'write' privellages the only way to solve this problem? What if that particular user is not supposed to do any editing of the data, and I end up giving him 'WRITE' privellages? Could it be something to do with the registry settings of the user's notebook/PC? I managed to get some info from this site : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305995 Could anyone confirm that the method suggested by the above mentioned link will solve the problem? Thanks. regards glisando glisando, Jun 1, 2007 #4 dfriend846 Thread Starter Joined: Aug 11, 2005 Messages: 199 Hello Glisando, I'm sorry but I cannot confirm that the other method will work. In my 2005 note I referred to the Write priveleges of the folder on the network. There are ways to prevent people with Write priveleges from altering data. In my case the users access the data via forms and those who should not change the data use forms where the fields cannot be edited. None of this will stop a determined with

The executiable program is in the users' local machine and the database in on NT server. Users have been getting error 3050 when they read or write to files and lost everthing they entered. All I can find from the MSDN is to change the MaxLocksPerFile value to 128 in its sample code. However, it could not lock did not help. Can anyone tell me what might cause it and its solution? Thanks so much. The problem may not lie with the database iteself. When a user opens the database, they must be able to read from and write to the record locking file. Try amending the permissions and see if that solves your problem. You can also do a compavt and repair on the database, this can only help. Mega.
