Until recently, we did not have any public folder databases in our environment. We added one public folder database to one of the ccr clusters last week for the sole purpose of supporting blackberry enterprise server http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Exchange&ProdVer=8.0&EvtID=8197&EvtSrc=MSExchangeFBPublish (unfortunately, BES still requires public folders). As soon as we added the public folder database, we started seeing event ID 8197 on all of the active cluster nodes EXCEPT on the node where the public folder database resides. The event occurs every 25 minutes in the app log.The text of the error message is this:Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: MSExchangeFBPublishEvent Category: General Event ID: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/48957dc7-e3b7-43b8-b940-cd20bef26752/event-id-8197-on-exchange-2007?forum=exchangesvradminlegacy 8197Date: 5/13/2008Time: 10:00:40 AMUser: N/AComputer: Server01Description:Error initializing session for virtual machine mbx01. Also, make sure that there is a valid public folder database on the Exchange server. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.I've seen a lot of posts with this event ID, but they all have to do with Exchange 2003, not 2007. Also, there seems to be a slight difference between 8197 on e2k7 vs. e2k3--there is one additional sentence at the end of the event that says "make sure that there is a valid public folder database on the Exchange server."Any idea why this error is showing up on clustered mailbox servers and what we can do about it?Thanks.Aaron Tuesday, May 13, 2008 4:35 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Hi Aaron, My first thought when I saw this error was that the Mailbox DB's don't have a PF DB assigned to them. Go to the properties of each Mailbox DB and check the Client Settings tab to s
[MSFT]September 28, 20050 Share 0 0 There is an article out there that addresses the issue that some of our customersare seeing:828764 https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/gerod_serafin/2005/09/28/event-id-8197-msexchangefbpublish-with-error-0x80040111/ "Event 8197" Error Message Is Logged Repeatedly in the Application Eventhttp://support.microsoft.com/?id=828764It https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/104578-exchange-2007-msexchangefbpublish-event-id-8197-error says that if you are getting this, there is a good chance that Exchange is trying to authenticate against a GC that doesn't have a trust with the domain that your Exchange 5.5 service account is in. But… How do you verify this? Can microsoft exchange you just look at the DSaccess tab on the Exchange server? No. As Jasper Kuria states in his post at http://blogs.technet.com/exchange/archive/2005/07/29/408394.aspx in this instance we don’t look at the output from DSAccess. This is authentication, not an LDAP call. In this case we look at the same GC that you would get if you were microsoft exchange error to run “nltest /dsgetdc: /gc”. If you are getting 8197s on your Exchange servers, you can run this and see if you are getting a GC in another domain that doesn’t have an explicit trust with the domain that the Exchange 5.5 service account is in. In fact if you have auditing on and look at the GC’s security logs you may see something similar to the following: Event Type: Failure AuditEvent Source: SecurityEvent Category: Account Logon Event ID: 680Date:Time:User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEMComputer:
