Unable To Open Service Tomcat6
I cannot automatically start the Tomcat7 service at startup on my Windows 7 laptop. On restarting Windows, I get the message "Access is Denied. Unable to Open the Service Tomcat7" even though I have the service set to log in as Administrator. I've also set the Tomcat directory (which I located outside of the Program Files directories) and all its subdirectories to "Full Control" for all users (which should be overkill). Yet I can start it manually using the "Run as Administrator" context menu unable to start tomcat server in windows 7 item. If that works, why won't setting it to run as Administrator as a service work? windows-7 tomcat share|improve this question asked May 17 '11 at 12:02 chrysanhy 85226 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted I was getting the very same error and I managed to sort it out. Though in my case, even though the same error occurred on every start of the machine, the service was running, as I was able to use my app. But I seriously wanted to get rid of this problem so the client will not be forced to see this annoying error. The way I did it was set up the tomcat7w.exe to always start as an administrator. Exactly you do it in the following way: right click on the tomcat7w.exe which is in the 'bin' folder of the tomcat installation, select 'Properties', then in 'Compatibility' tab under 'Privilege Level' select the 'Run this program as an administrator'. I have put my answer for completeness as I think this might be the only way for Win 7 Home users, as in this version there is simply no option to set Local Policies which is required in the answer provided by @ta.speot.is (BTW +1) share|improve this answer edited Jan 8 '15 at 13:55 answered Mar 30 '12 at 11:58 Boro 16625 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote If that works, why won't setting it to run as Administrator as a service

It says "Unable to open the service '%TomcatServiceName%'", where %TomcatServiceName% is a name of Tomcat service. It needs an checker "Start with administrator privileges" enabled in link options. Or just every time right mouse button click on the link and start as administrator. I found in Google the answer: http://www.maplesoft.com/support/faqs/detail.aspx?sid=33857 Comment 1 denixx baykin 2012-01-14 10:28:08 UTC When Monitor starts after install - it starts normally. But when Win 7 reboots - it's always say this "Unable" at startup and won't start in tray Monitor icon. Further Monitor starts manually only. Sorry me for my English :)

After a reboot, logging in as an administrator generates the following error message: Application System Error. Access is denied. Unable to open application system error the service 'Tomcat7'. I believe the issue is the same as this bug: ASF Bugzilla – Bug 52467 This is part of my first Server 2012 setup and I am unsure as to how to either grant permission or prevent it from starting. My Google-fu on this has been weak and I was unable to locate any information on automatically starting programs for this OS. For reference, this issue is almost an exact duplicate of this, however the answer provided there does not seem to apply to Server 2012 in the same manner. Could someone please explain to me what I need to do to resolve this issue or point me to a resource that can enable me do the same? Thanks! windows-server-2012 tomcat7 share|improve this question asked Feb 21 '13 at 15:30 Melikoth 2131213 Take a look at the logs, and also the windows event log, to get more detail on what exactly it is being denied access to. –Falcon Momot Jun 26 '13 at 7:48 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? guess) , you will see this error when you restart the system . Application System Error Access is Denied. Unable to open the service 'Tomcat6' This error is confusing at first because it says "service" . Users will think there is some problem with the tomcat service . But this error is related to the Tomcat Monitor (tomcat6w.exe) and User Account Control (UAC) in windows. You can fix this issue in 2 ways 1. disable UAC altogether . (not recommended [ i don't have enough knowledge on UAC :-) ] ) 2. this is a better approach . in this we are allowing the program to run as administrator always . go to /bin . right click ontomcat6w.exe, select Properties select the Compatibility tab. Under Privilege Level, select Run this program as an administrator, click OK. reference :http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709691(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_S2 hope this helps someone.
