following error message: The system could not log you on. The server authenticating you reported an error (0xC00000BB). You can find further details in the event log. Please report this error to the system administrator. There is a Microsoft KB article (891849) describing the issue. However, the sAMAccountName and userPrincipalName prefix mismatch aren't always the cause. Users receive same error whenthe domain controller doesn't have a DC certificate installed. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/891849 That can happen if a manual procedure or a 3rd-party CA are used for domain controller certificate enrollment - you can miss some of the DCs. For information about domain controller certificates read Advanced Certificate Enrollment and Management on TechNet and MS Knowledgebase article 291010 - Requirements for Domain Controller Certificates from a Third-Party http://blogs.msmvps.com/sp/2007/06/02/smart-card-logon-error-0xc00000bb/ CA.

The Domain Controller has an expired / does not exist "Domain Controller" Certificate 2. The Certificate issued to the domain controller does not have the OID for Smart Card logons under the Extended Key Usage (EKU) or is not based off of the "Domain Controller" Certificate Template. ======================================================= If the Certificate has expired on the Domain Controller, you will need to get a new certificate issued to the domain controller and then reboot the DC. ======================================================= If the Domain Controller has a valid Certificate, then more then likely the certificate that is being used is not supported for Smart Card Logon or the Certificate used by the domain controller was not created from the "Domain Controller" Version 1 template or "Domain Controller Authentication" Version 2 Certificate template. To verify either of these conditions you would export the public Key and run the following command against the file created: CertUtil -verify
