I need to add a couple of pre-pending zero's to the filename. I'm new to Python and I have written the following script. import os path = "c:\\tmp" dirList = os.listdir(path) for fname in dirList: fileName = os.path.splitext(fname)[0] fileName = "00" + fname os.rename(fname, fileName) #print(fileName) The commented print line error 2 the system cannot find the file specified sublime text was just to verify I was on the right track. When I run this I get the following error and I am at a loss how to resolve it. Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Python32\Code\add_zeros_to_std_imgs.py", line 15, in os.rename(fname, fileName) WindowsError: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified Any help is greatly appreciated. Thnx. python share|improve this question asked Nov 16 '11 at 17:26 nyteshades 46113 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 13 down vote You should pass the absolute path to os.rename. Right now your only passing the filename itself. It isn't looking in the correct place. Use os.path.join. Try this: import os path = "c:\\tmp" dirList = os.listdir(path) for fname in dirList: fileName = os.path.splitext(fname)[0] fileName = "00" + fname os.rename(os.path.join(path, fname), os.path.join(path, fileName)) #print(fileName) share|improve this answer answered Nov 16 '11 at 17:28 Casey 5,654115196 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.

Go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables and verify "C:\python35;" is at the beginning of PATH. If so, relaunch Sublime. In Sublime, open the console with "(ctrl-`)" run os.getenv("PATH") and see if C:\python35; is in the result. share|improve this answer edited Mar 26 at 17:09 answered Mar 26 at 14:50 Forge 2,99731631 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
