When the system failed to register host (a or aaaa) 8018 I get the error all websites on the servers are stopped until I run ipconfig/registerdns.The servers have static IP's so I disabled DHCP. I deletedA records for the servers on sent update to server the DNS server and rebooted everything. I unchecked register this connection's address in DNSfor the particular network adapters. Nothing seems to solve the problem long term.Pete Valiante Wednesday, December 14, 2011 7:04 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote This is a security related problem. The cause of this could be (a) your computer does not have permissions to register and update the specific DNS domain name set for this adapter, or (b) there might have been a problem negotiating valid credentials with the DNS server during the processing of the update request. As you have mentioned that you have deleted the host record from DNS and unchecked register this connection's address in DNSfor the particular network adapters. Ensure the following on member server. 1. Each workstation/member server should point to local DNS server as primary DNS and other remote DNS serv

For some reason these were showing as "192.168.100.190", which was clearly incorrect. Doesn't tell us what caused the problem, but it did solve it! share|improve this answer answered May 27 '09 at 12:36 Rob 556524 add a comment| up vote -1 down vote please check for suggstions/possible solutions here: eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=11166&eventno=3393&source=DnsApi&phase=1 share|improve this answer answered May 27 '09 at 11:06 Sergey 1,9361113 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. This can occur when a server has been rebuilt or replaced, but the DNS records still have the SID of the original server, and the "new" server does not have permission to update them. To resolve this issue: 1 In the FORWARD LOOKUP ZONE in DNS management, right click on the A record for the computer with the problem. 2 Select "Properties" 3 Click the "Security" tab 4 Check that the problematic computer appears in the permissions list 5 If it doesn't, add it, and give it READ and WRITE permissions. If it does, check that the permissions are appropriate Now navigate to the REVERSE LOOKUP ZONE, and right click on the "PTR" record for the problematic computer. Repeat steps 2 - 5 On the computer that had the error, open a command window and type "ipconfig/registerdns". Now check the system event log.
