the reason for the error message “System cannot find the path specified”? up vote 0 down vote favorite I have folder run in folder system32. When I run cmd from within Total Commander opening a command prompt window with C:\Users\admin as current directory and want to go into that folder, the following error message is output: System cannot find the path specified. When I the system cannot find the drive specified windows 10 open cmd directly in folder run, it works perfect. Why? The command prompt window on opening in C:\Windows\System32\run: C:\Windows\System32\run>cd.. There are only 3 solutions for this problem in Windows 7: - 1 the one described in the above cited KB article - 2 you give the logged on user the necessary privileges to run this program under his user account - that is IMO the preferred solution - 3 you use another account to run that program e.g. a domain admin or local admin account and disable UAC and logon as that user before running that program Of course you can use the explorer to browse via UNC path and not via mapped drive - then you need not enter the UNC path if you want to run the executable, as it is already known to the explorer interface, and you will be prompted for credentials to connect to the network resource.
