the path specified at java.io.WinNTFileSystem.createFileExclusively(Native Method) at java.io.File.createNewFile(Unknown Source) I have code that makes settings directory and checks that it is there. Every time I run it, it displays the "New User" message. Here is the code that makes the directory: f = new File(System.getProperty("user.home") + "AppData\\Local\\DataDude\\pass\\"); and here is the check: if (f.isDirectory()) { firstTime = false; } else { firstTime = true; f.mkdirs(); } Here is where it creates the file: File f = new File(this.getPassLoc() + user.getText() + ".ser"); if (!f.exists()) { f.createNewFile(); } (getPassLoc() returns f) java file file-io share|improve this question edited Dec 7 '14 at 17:12 Fast Snail 7,83061847 asked Dec 7 '14 at 17:01 theTechnoKid 16013 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted On my system I get the following values for System.getProperty("user.home") and your file f: C:\Users\Luke C:\Users\LukeAppData\Local\DataDude\pass You missed a backslash before AppData, or assumed that System.getProperty("user.home") would

I get the following error everytime I try. java.io.IOException: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22490625/java-io-ioexception-the-system-cannot-find-the-path-specified The system cannot find the path specified at java.io.WinNTFileSystem.createFileExclusively(Native Method) at java.io.File.createTempFile(Unknown Source) etc.. The error happens everytime the following code is ran: InputStream inputStream = portalBean.createPDF( sessionID, foCode ); Things I have tried Changed the java.io.tmpdir variable on the fly. System.setProperty("java.io.tmpdir", "C:\\"); Added -Djava.io.tmpdir=c:\\temp to the webnetwork lax file to an unrestricted location. I tried setting the webNetwork service to run as a specified user with rights to temp files e.g. the Administrator. Made sure I have free disk space and I cleaned out the c:\windows\temp folder. Made sure the tmp environment variables were set to their default values. I also tried running the service from a command prompt which was opened with the Run As Administrator option. And the IOException lingers still. I have another server running the same code without issue (Windows Server 2012). Does anyone else have any Ideas of what else I can try to resolve this issue? And or any tips on how I can debug the issue

Re: File.createTempFile() throws exception on Win7 843790 Sep 10, 2010 7:50 AM (in response to 843790) I can only speculate, but maybe that function depends on an environment variable that isn't set when you run the code as a service. (TEMP/TMP might be candidates). Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: File.createTempFile() throws exception on Win7 843790 Sep 10, 2010 2:44 PM (in response to 843790) Thanks for your reply but this doesnt help :(. Both System environment variables are set to C:\Windows\Temp. Both User environment variables are set to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp. Also i confirmed that both these directories exist on the workstation. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3.
