in to vote Hi I have 2x 2003 Standard R2 SP2 branch domain controllers which are both having the following issue: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/887303 Event Type:Error Event Source:Userenv Event Category:None Event ID:1058 Date:13/06/11 Time:2:01:55 p.m. User:GABNZ\clai Computer:NZTRG01 Description: Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO cn={4E1C755B-38D2-40B8-9EB2-DE3F0533F15E},cn=policies,cn=system,DC=wan,DC=gabrobins,DC=co,DC=nz. Both are running DFS which seems to be replicating ok. Initially I had an issue with GPOs not replicating through to these 2 DCs and so found these logs on both server. I've browsed to the namespace indicated and noticed the path where the gpt.ini is suppose to be is missing completely! I've only recently taken over this network so am not sure how this might have happened. Any help will be appreciated. For instance, incorrect ACL on Sysvol may cause this iss

Afterward the server became unstable and was shutting down at random. I got in and figured out the shutdowns were b/c the licensing service was unable to start (so it was sending shutdown commands every 60 minutes). For some reason the service wouldn't start when logging in under the network service acct, but changing it windows cannot access to system acct allowed it to login and stop the shutdowns. Here is what you do (got this from the windows.mag Internet forum on this issue). This worked for me (and EVERYONE else who has tried this), and NOTHING has worked for over 6 months until this. No question this workaround stops the 1030/1058 errors. Here's what you do. Edit the hosts file on EACH domain controller. Put in the IP address for your domain controller (the local IP address should be first in the list) -- and then next to the IP address do NOT put the host name, but put the name of the domain. Then list the IP address for EACH domain controller in your domain on that same hosts file (with the domain name next to it). In other words, your hosts file should look like this (if you have just two domain controllers): 121.121.121.121 yourdomainname.com 121.121.121.122 yourdomainname.com Where 121.121.121.121 = the ip address of the local domain controller for THIS hosts file. Where 121.121.121.122 = the ip address of your OTHER domain controller yourdomainname.com = the name of your domain The list would be reversed (as far as IP address) on the hosts file on the other domain controller. Yes, you need a hosts file on EACH domain controller. Try it -- it wo
