Restart your computer then check windows firewall again. You are better off, installing a free program such as Sygate's Personal Firewall, Agnitum's Outpost or Zonelab's Zonealarm. Either program will do a better job than M$. I agree that this fixes only the symptom, not the problem. But XP SP2 has caused so many problems, this may well be one (more) of them. Oct 24, 2004 #2 rp748 TS Rookie Topic Starter thank you real As you said, this fixes only the symptom. I would like to be able to use ICS. One more thing, which i am not sure if it is related, the IPSEC service can not be started as well with this error msg: "the ipsec services service terminated with the following error: the requested protocol has not been configured into the system" Oct 25, 2004 #3 RealBlackStuff TS Rookie Posts: 6,503 I don't know XP, (use Win2000 myself), but is your TCP/IP installed? Do you have any connection (modem or cable) to the WWW? Oct 25, 2004 #4 rp748 TS Rookie Topic Starter realblackstuff said: I don't know XP,

I cannot get it to get online at all.I get error 10047 when trying to look at the properties. DHCP wasn't workin, http://www.realgeek.com/forums/firewall-internet-connection-sharing-ics-service-on-the-local-475196.html but now seems to be. I cannot enable my firewall nor is security center seeing microsoft security essentials. If I try to start windows firewall/ICS it comes with a error 10047: an address incompatible with the requested protocol windows firewall was used. I can access it, but I cannot start it at all.I do not have a windows disk unfortunately. IPSEC service will not start either, butcan at least open it. I get a 10091 error. It is set to automatic. Client service for netware will not start either error 2. I got cryptsvc to start finally, however, I get the error 5:acess denied when trying to access it. Workstation cannot be accessed as well. internet connection sharing In short, I had a nasty one a long while ago and wiped out my hard drive. Now I have windows media center again. All was working ok, until I got another virus a week ago. I finally wiped it out however it took some things with it i presume. Everything works fine other than these problems. I can connect the ethernet cable and will pick it up nand connect, but no internet. I can take the usb card... MY internet is a usb card... and plug it in however it will connect, but no internet. I'm running windows media edition sp3. I'm having one other problem, but isn't related to any of these mentioned above. Another day perhaps... Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I cant get online with it, so downloading programs that require the internet... obviously won't work. I know I don't have any viruses. Also, when I first start the cpu and it loads up normally, security center tells me AVG firewall is turned off... I don't have AVG anymore thanks to my dad sheesh. So why or how rather can it be off if it doesnt exist anymore? It has me perplexed. My only option I can think of is the OS disk that I don't have... what a sad day... What to do? Please
