I cannot connect from any of my client computers. I have narrowed it down to the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Service (ICS), which won't start; the startup type is set to automatic. When I try to start it manually, I get an error message: "Windows Firewall/ICS could not http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php?/topic/14048-windows-firewallics-service-error-170/ be started on this computer. Error 170: the requested resource is in use." I can ping the clients from the server, but the clients can't ping the server and get a reply. I spent 3 hours over two days on the phone with Microsoft Tech Support (for $79); they told me the problem was the avast! anti-virus program; In between calls I uninstalled avast!; Microsoft connected to the server by remote control and said there were still remnants of the program causing a problem. I have contacted Alwil (producer of avast!) and they directed me to an uninstall program, which I ran. I have done a search on this problem and found several possible solutions, none of which worked. I have checked to see if certain necessary services were started; they were. I then did a winsock reset; that didn't work either. At one point the server was doing backups, but the client computers still couldn't connect to the server. Has anybody run into this problem or have an idea how to correct it? How can I find out which resource is in use and what else is using it? I really don't want to have to reinstall the WHS OS. Thanks for any help you can give me. Share th

If RRAS is enabled you will get that message but it is unrelated to the Control panel / Windows firewall 0 Message Author Closing Comment by:IT_Group12012-05-06 Great solution - works every time :) 0 Write Comment First Name Please enter a first name Last Name Please enter a last name Email We will never share this with anyone.
