it will not import a *.csv address book, or allow me to create a new email message. Error messages I get are: "error importing to the address book" "there was an error opening this message. An error has occurred" I have uninstalled OE6 then https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/917288 oe5, I have removed the Address book from add/remove pgms and re add them all in again etc etc, but the problem remains. I can execute the *.wab file and see and export the addresses no problem at all, I have uninstalled http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/archive/index.php/t-46101.html OE in accordance with directions from the MS Knowledge base and removing registry entries. Short from formating and starting again (which I want to avoid) this problem has me stumped. Any one with anything suggestions welcomed. / Outlook / Configure and Maintain / Import a WAB file into Outlook Contacts Last reviewed on April 10, 2014 —31 Comments Applies to: Outlook 2013 Users who copied a .wab http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/config/import-wab-file-outlook-windows-78/ file (Windows Address Book) from a Windows XP computer can import it in Outlook by going through Windows Contacts. If you also need to import Outlook Express email, you will need to http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-358002.html use Live Essentials Mail or a third party conversion utility. The wab is at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book on Windows XP and may be named username.wab. Step 1: Import to Windows Contacts address book Double click on the .wab file and click Import. (This step is so easy and so fast you might not realize what happened.) If you don't have the .wab file and still have access to the old computer, look for it at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book. It may be named username.wab. Copy it to the new computer. Step 2: Using Outlook 2010 and older outlook express error If you use Outlook 2010 or older, you can import the Windows Contacts. Open the Import/Export wizard. In Outlook 2010/2013, it's at File, Open, Import; in older versions, it's on the File menu. Choose Import Internet Mail and Addresses. Click Next. Choose Outlook Express. Deselect Import Mail. Choose whether to allow duplicates to be created. Click Finish. Depending on how many contacts you have, it can take from a few seconds to a few minutes to import the contacts. Step 2: Using Outlook 2013 Outlook 2013 has limited import options. Your choices are Comma Separated Values (CSV) or vCards so you'll need to export the contacts from Windows Contacts in either CSV or as vCards. Because it's annoying to import a large number of vcards unless you use a macro, I recommend exporting in CSV format. Open Windows contacts. In Windows 7, type Contacts in the Start search field; in Windows 8, type Contacts on the Start screen. Press Enter to open Contacts. Click Export. If you don't see Export to the far right of Organize, expand the bar or maximize the window. Choose CSV (Comma Separated Values) from the Export Windows Contac
a brand new PC (Win XP), both using Outlook Express. On the old, Export->WAB, works fine (to a floppy). On the new, Import-->WAB->(file name), I get the error message, "An error occurred during the import process. The import process could not be completed." Trying the same import process in another Win98 machine, Outlook version 5.00, I get the same error message. Looking up the error message in Google, I am referred to this MS site, which describes the exact same error message: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=278599&sd=RMVP That page says the likely cause is a R/O flag on the file. I checked; the file is not flagged R/O. I changed the flag to R/O just for kicks, same error; changed back to R/W, same error; removed the Archive flag, same error. Tried exporting to CSV text file; file looks good in a text editor, but the import process hangs after initially reading the file and never completes. The transferred file is small, less than 100 names. I am able to re-import the file back to the source machine without error, so it looks like the file was written OK, and the same thing happens with different media samples. Outlook source is version 6.00, destination version is unknown, but it came with XP. Any ideas how I can get this data transferred? Musicat02-10-2006, 04:51 PM
