I get the following error consistently. svn: E175002: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk' tortoise svn unable to connect to a repository at url svn: E175002: OPTIONS of 'http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk': Could not resolve hostname `svn.apache.org' : This is usually a temporary error during hostname resolution and means that the local server did not receive a response from an authoritative server. (http://svn.apache.org) The command that I used is svn co http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk subversion I can access the repository using a browser without any issues. It seems to be an issue with the settings here, as I can access the locally hosted(on my computer, as well as on the corporate network) SVN repositories seamlessly. Edit: Once I figured out that SVN does not use the proxy settings of the host machine, I could quickly edit my servers file to fix the issue. svn share|improve this question edited Apr 30 '13 at 9:13 asked Apr 30 '13 at 7:35 Vaibhav Garg 41541228 marked as duplicate by Álvaro González, barti_ddu, Reuben Mallaby, ecatmur, DBD Apr 30 '13 at 15:23 This question was marked as an exact duplicate of an existing question. Please find the error below SVN: OPTIONS of 'http://ipaddress/svn/folder': could not connect to http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/122345/svn-could-not-connect-to-server server (http://ipaddress) but i can to ping and connect SVN server via ssh. Please help to resolve this issue. subversion share|improve this question asked Mar 31 '14 at 5:34 pravin09 107211 Can you please provide your svn command line? This would appear to be an issue with your SVN server not running or accepting connections. –slm♦ Mar 31 '14 at 5:42 1 The issue is with the WEB SERVER... http://... means svn is trying to talk to a webserver. –Ricky Beam Mar 31 '14 at 5:47 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Since you can SSH to your server, you should be using svn+ssh URLs, not http URLs. Try something like this: $ svn co svn+ssh://myuser@ipaddress/svn/folder checkoutlocation If your login name is the same on both machines (myuser in this example) and don't need the checkout directory to be named differently, you can shorten the command: $ svn co svn+ssh://ipaddress/svn/folder This tells Subversion to tunnel the SVN protocol over SSH. HTTP is an entirely separate protocol, and requires that you set up Subversion to work with Apache. sh
04:38 PMHi I am using 9.04 64 private server from OVH. Every time I am trying to use subversion it returns error like : svn: OPTIONS of 'http://code.djangoproject.com/svn/django/trunk': could https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1365519.html not connect to server (http://code.djangoproject.com) Is there any solution for the above, https://www.pythonanywhere.com/forums/topic/151/ is it a known problem? It is not network related I've tried other addresses too with no success. subversion info here: s$ svn --version svn, version 1.5.4 (r33841) compiled Aug 7 2009, 02:02:06 Copyright (C) 2000-2008 CollabNet. Subversion is open source software, see http://subversion.tigris.org/ This product includes software developed by connect to CollabNet (http://www.Collab.Net/). The following repository access (RA) modules are available: * ra_neon : Module for accessing a repository via WebDAV protocol using Neon. - handles 'http' scheme - handles 'https' scheme * ra_svn : Module for accessing a repository using the svn network protocol. - with Cyrus SASL authentication - handles 'svn' scheme * ra_local : Module for accessing a repository on local could not connect disk. - handles 'file' scheme I've heard that the neon module may not be compatible with ubuntus 9.04 kernel Please Help  raffaele181188December 27th, 2009, 05:37 PMI hope it helps (from Debian) http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=531338 jareksuaffDecember 27th, 2009, 08:53 PMThank you for the link Raffaele I've tried same things they did on Debian http-library=serf to ~/.subversion/servers. id did not work. Tried aptitude for updating the libneon27 and libneon27-gnutls same thing it does not work. I am a beginner, really I don't know how to install unstables or downgrade to old version Regards J. noway2December 28th, 2009, 02:06 AMI have seen this message appear when access to the SVN server is blocked, such as when I am at work, in which case I need to proxy through a different, less restrictive connection. Are you perchance behind a firewall of some sorts? jareksuaffDecember 28th, 2009, 10:24 PMHi Noway2 No I am not behind firewall It is a VPS with freshly installed Ubuntu server 9.04 64 + nginx. I would normally install the latest but due to VM I am restricted to what my provider offers. Regards J. noway2December 29th, 2009,
but I found I cannot access it today. I use 'svn up', and it return error message like the title. I try the svn checkout to the other place, the same error message returned. I cannot use ping/telnet to see whether the network error or something wrong . BTW: I can access the site from home. liquninfo | 6 posts | June 26, 2012, 2:28 p.m. | permalink We implemented a block for free accounts to prevent abuse by our users. We added a large number of exceptions for sites that we think are generally useful to our users. assembla wasn't one of them, but it looks like a good one for us to add. I'll add it now. It should begin working again in about half an hour. glenn | 1895 posts | PythonAnywhere staff| | June 26, 2012, 3:16 p.m. | permalink What do you think of publishing this exception list? My reason for interest is to perhaps learn about sites/services others are using that I don't know about, Where the free account users would have the list as a reference to where they can connect. a2j | 684 posts | June 26, 2012, 11:23 p.m. | permalink First, I appreciate your work for free user. Indeed it should prevent the abuse. I suggest the reputation system bad one should prevent harder and harder. I couldnot access the site now, but I get around it by file upload function. Thanks anyway. liquninfo | 6 posts | June 27, 2012, 1:26 a.m. | permalink @a2j: We do intend to publish the list. We just didn't get to it this time around. glenn | 1895 posts | PythonAnywhere staff| | June 27, 2012, 10:20 a.m. | permalink @liquninfo, that was an oversight on our part. Subversion needs specific config to use the proxy. Edit the file# /home/liquninfo/.subversion/servers it starts off as mostly comments. Towards the end you'll find the [global] section. Edit it to look like this: [global] http-proxy-host = proxy.server http-proxy-port = 3128 and your checkout should work. We'll do that by default in future. NOTE: This is specifically for Free accounts. It will make your Premium/Hosting account behave like a Free account if you do it in a Premium/Hosting account. glenn | 1895 posts |
