> Visual Studio Diagnostics (Debugger, Profiler, IntelliTrace) Question 0 Sign in to vote I've recently built a new Server 2003 SP1 server as dcom error 1068 a Dev machine and on it I've installed the remote debugger, configured

as a service with a network ID (which is just a member of domain users) and which is

a member of the Administrators local group on the server. The server firewall is turned off and disabled. My workstation is XP SP2 patched to a fairly recent level (policy https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2dbesfyx.aspx is to patch monthly with latest critical plus other necessary patches). I'm using VS2005 with SP1. Yesterday, after some fiddling, I managed to get the remote debugger working. This morning, it's broken again. The current error is: "Unable to start debugging on the web server. An unexpected DCOM error occurred trying to contact the remote computer. Access is denied". I https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/33f2b74a-e347-49a7-a6f4-6334f8f883f4/remote-debugger-dcom-error-and-others?forum=vsdebug didn't see this error yesterday. Neither machine has been rebooted and I haven't logged off my workstation - I left it locked overnight because I was on 24-hour callout. The only thing that's different is that this morning I'm remoting in onto my desktop using RDP. I can't see why this would break it but if there's a reason, I'd love to know it. The account with which I'm logged onto the workstation is a member of the local Administrators group on the workstation. It is also a member of a global group which is a member of the local Administrators group on the server. We've had some issues working through the debugger forum, which we hope to have under control now. Anyway, you don't need to be a member of the Debugger User's group anymore, if you're using VS 2005. What you need to make sure of
server using the 'Attach To Process' dialog. This is what I did 1>Click on website in IIS 7.5. On the right side of the screen under Actions, click on "Basic settings". That opens up http://dotnetanalysis.blogspot.com/2012/02/unable-to-start-debugging-on-web-server_01.html a pop up as shown below. 2>Click Connect as in the pop up window shown above. 3>Select Application user 4>Open IIS manager and navigate to Authentication. Enable Windows Authentication.
