It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool. After following: KB323076 to use the Local Security Policy to apply event log permissions. I have compared the ACL entries (found viadcomcnfg.msc) with a member server in a similar config where the error isn't being logged, and I see no difference. I can correlate the first error to the exact time where I implemented the security policy change; but can not determine how they are related. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Matt My unanswered threads: • DFS / RDC size estimations? • Online backup of Active Directory / ESE DB, command line interface to ESENT.DLL's JetBackup() function. The errors were logged every time the group policy was applied (I used gpupdate /force to test). It appears that the ACE for BUILTIN\distributed com users (S-1-5-32-562) was missing from the "Access permission limits" on the My Computer object in component services. If I added this ACE and updated the group policy, the ACE disappeared. However, the problem was resolved when I added the ACE then rebooted the machine (really restarting DCOM related services). It is possible that it was unrelated to the "security policy" change, but was actually below my radar for a while.

I have not found an application that fails to work with the Error occouring, however it is disconcerting to see DCOM errors. The fix for this is pretty simple; ** !Warning! messing around in the Component Services MMC can cause system instability ** 1. Open the Component Services MMC either by typing in the Run box "dcomcnfg" and pressing enter, or clicking Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Component Services. 2. Expand Component Services + Computers & Right click on My Computer and click
