Administration, KnowHow, SharePoint |Event ID 10016 – Solving the DCOM Security Policy message in SharePoint 2010 step-by-step.In the last half year we designed and http://activedirectoryfaq.com/2014/07/sharepoint-2010-event-id-10016-dcom-security-policy/ built a 3-step SharePoint 2010 environment for a major http://blog.msvconsultancy.co.uk/2012/08/fixing-sharepoint-dcom-error-10016/ customer who asked us to run a SPRaaS (SharePoint RAP as a Service) by Microsoft. As usual, the findings are collected in an Excel-table and have to be processed under supervision.I handled the finding "Event ID 10016: DCOM dcom error Security Policy Configuration". In all SharePoint servers, event 10016 was recorded in the system log as “Error”.Event ID 10016: Distributed COM Error The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} and APPID {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} to the user XXX\XXX dcom error 10016 SID (XXX) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.123456The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1}and APPID{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1}to the user XXX\XXX SID (XXX) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC).This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.Microsoft explains the solution in KB920783.Summed up brieflythe farm service account needs the following authorizations on DCOM object "IIS WAMREG admin Service":local launchlocal activationI tried to set the DCOM authorizations, but all I got was the following screen: the configuration was grayed out. Searching Google, I found out that with Windows Server 2008R2 the authorizations for DCOM changes were not included for the local administrator.Activate permission to change DCOM settings for local adminChanging the registry-authorizations (full control for local administrators) on key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} reactiv
Error 10016SharePoint 2010Fixing SharePoint DCOM Error 10016 Fixing SharePoint DCOM Error 10016 If you are installing SharePoint 2010 using least privillage service accounts you may come across a DCOM 10016 error in your event logs, the farm still functions correctly however your event logs get cluttered up. This is cause by your farm service account not having Local Activation permissions for IIS WAMREG service. This is easy to rectify, go into Component Services (dcomcnfg.msc) and expand out Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config and find IIS WAMREG Admin Service. Go to properties and select the Security Tab, then Edit the Launch and Activation Permissions giving your Farm Service account the required permissions. However the option may not always be available (Server 2008R2) and will be greyed out. To overcome this you need to go into Registry Editior and locate the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} Once located you need to change the permissions on it, firstly take ownership and then assign full control to the administrators group. DO NOT change any other permissions as you will cause yourself issues. We are now free to reopen Component Services and amend as necessary. UPDATE Sometimes you may see the same error but for MSI Server (CLSID 000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046) you can use the process above to the same effect.
