the import process, "XML Translation was aborted due to a critical error." there are usually two culprits:1. Your timecodes the cms on machine was stopped due to a critical error are not in sync.2. You have bad ASCII characters in your transcript. build grid aborted due to critical error -- Sometimes as you're typing you might inadvertently hit the Ctrl key while typing a letter, inserting a character testing pass stopped due to a critical error in the ea that is not valid XML. FCP chokes on this when it tries to import. Curly quotes in particular can cause problems in FCP. Even though some XML validators will ignore them,

curly quotes like “ ” ‘ ’ will cause XML errors. Replace them with straight quotes: " '. Here are some suggestions on resolving this problem:1. Try “Save Subtitled QuickTime Movie…”If you have timecode errors in your transcript, you may have problems importing intoFCP. Use InqScribe’s “Save Subtitled QuickTime Movie…” feature (in the “File” menu) to test your subtitles. If there are parallels for mac timecodes that are repeated or out of order, the Save Subtitled QuickTime Movie feature will generate a report for you. Fix the timecodes and try saving the subtitled movie again until InqScribe doesn’t report any errors, then do yourFCPXMLexport again.2. Use TextWrangler to Zap the GremlinsIf your issue is bad ASCII characters, you can used a text tool like TextWrangler (it's free) to find and replace the bad characters. (BBEdit will work too if you have it).a. Download TextWrangler fromhttp://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/b. Install it and start it.c. Open your bad XML file (e.g. "export.xml") in TextWrangler[d. It might help to select the "T" icon next to the pencil in the toolbar and select "Soft Wrap Text"]e. From the menu bar, select Text -> Zap Gremlins...f. Select the "Replace with •" radio button -- this will mark the zapped item so you can fix it in your transcript. (Leave the "Non-ASCII characters", "Control characters", and "Null (ASCII 0) characters" checked).g. Click "Zap" -- Unfortunately TextWrangler does not give you a message about how many gremlins were zapped.h. Select Search -> Find... and type Option-8 to enter t

I didn't have any problems with FC-Color roundtrip, I always do the same. My footage is XDCamEx 1080i, no speed changes, filters etc. (only basic transitions), I do have Motion animation on the beginning (I tried to delete the animation from Color and reexport, didn't help). I use Color 1.02 (because of the incompactibility of 1.03 with XDCamEx footage). Any ideas what to do with http://support.inqscribe.com/knowledgebase/articles/106608-why-am-i-getting-an-xml-translation-was-aborted-d this? At this point, if nothing else works, you may need to create a new project without the Animation clip, insert a placeholder clip in its stead, and somehow fake the export back to FCP. Whether you have to re-render everything or not depends on whether you can re-link the new project back to the original renders or not. That will take some cleverfness. Otherwise "Import Color Corrections" may be the route with a full re-render and supposedly back to normal after that. The underlying issue is that COLOR does not create a new XML -- it always uses the exported file created in FCP as the root. Change that and all bets are OFF. Apple makes a point of underlining the need to avoid changing anything on the timeline. It is locked for a reason. You may want to upgrade to COLOR 1.0.4 which apparently fixed the XDCam issues, but I rarely work with that format.jPoMessage was edited by: JP Owens Helpful (1) Reply options Link to this post by Patrick Inhofer,★Helpful Patrick Inhofer Jan 21, 2009 10:22 AM in response to PetrKotora Level 3 (505 points) Jan 21, 2009 10:22 AM in response to PetrKotora I'm chiming in with my support for the "Import Color Corrections" route that JP mentioned.Essentially, you'll re-export out of FCP and a create a new Color project WITH A DIFFERENT NAME (you must not delete your original Color project). Before you re-export out of FCP, replace all Motion clips with a dummy
