Description David 2012-06-04 13:58:02 UTC Spreadsheet and Writer both crash a few seconds after loading (have not tried any other app). Sometimes I have enough time to open a spreadsheet. This happens every time I start the apps. I can start the spreadsheet or writer app and let it sit with a blank doc and after about 15-20 second the dialog box "Due to an unexpected error, Openoffice.org crashed..." appears. I tells me that the doc I'm working on will be saved and presents me with a "Close" button at the bottom of the dialogue. I click the close and this dialogue stops responding.. Have to force it closed via windows. Comment 1 Andre 2012-06-08 09:44:53 UTC Can anybody reproduce this? Comment 2 Regina Henschel 2012-06-08 09:59:49 UTC I had a similar problem myself and heard it from others. The reason had been a faulty file registrymodifications.xcu. I could not find out, why the file gets faulty. @David: Please search for this file in your OpenOffice user folder in your Windows profile and rename it. It will be regenerated with the next AOO start. Please report back, whether this solves your problem. Comment 3 David 2012-06-08 19:38:41 UTC Hey Regina. Your suggestion worked. I had the spreadsheet open for over an hour with no crashes. Thanks Comment 4 Terry Yang 2012-06-20 06:38:17 UTC Remove the registrymodifications.xcu

Rebooted per directions. Checked for updates. Installed them all (151 of them). Launched OO Writer. While checking out features, I clicked TOOLS > BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATABASE. Wham! OO went down like it https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1506450 was shot through the head. I got an error message: "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically. "The following files will be recovered: Untitled1" OO does this repeatedly, every time I click TOOLS >BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATABASE. Am I doing something wrong? Let me know, please! Thanks for any help. 3-Ball Adv Reply June 10th, 2010 #2 Hagar Delest View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Dark Roasted Ubuntu Join Date Dec 2006 Location France Beans 1,008 DistroXubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Re: OpenOffice Crashes First make sure that Base is installed (it is not by default with Ubuntu). Then check that in OOo menu Tools>Options>OOo>Java there is a version checked (wait a while so that it scans the system). If no change, try to reset your OOo user profile but don't transfer your personal data during the welcome process (if you had 2.x before), configuration files from the former version might corrupt the new profile. If still no luck, try the Sun version: [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co. Openoffice version: 4.1.1_3 I have tried to use OpenOffice https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/427030-openoffice-crashes-at-start writer, calc, draw, and Impress all crash so often that they are not usable.I tried Openoffice Math and it appeared to be working OK. (It was not a very complex test but I did kick around several options& banged on the keys). I did not test Openoffice base. Easiest way to reproduce the problem, Open: due to calcselect one cell, enter some short text.select a different cell: right click, in the context menu select format cells...Usually it will crash and gointo document recovery which also will crash before completing. I have tried to delete: ~/.openoffice.org-develHowever, Openoffice continues to crash. When Openoffice does crash it usually will start its recovery process which I get the following popups:OpenOffice Document Recovery Due to an unexpected error, Openoffice crashed. All due to unexpected the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time Openoffice is launched, your files will be recovered automatically. The following files will be recovered: untitled 1 --->New popup: OpenOffice Document Recovery Press 'Start Recovery' to start the recovery process of the documents listed below. Untitled 1 status: Not recovered yet. Pressed: StartRecovery btn.
--> OpenOffice Doc Recovery dialog.
Due to an unexpected error, OO crashed. .....
The following files will be recovered:
Untitled 1
[OK] -->dialog closed, the end. (Note: The recovery itself also crashed and failed to recover the document. Data lost!) I suspect the OpenOffice Recovery problem may be a secondary symptom rather than the primary cause. I have tried Openoffice through the normal PBI package and when I was experiencing so much crashing I built it from Ports.(The Ports version of Openoffice was exactly the same as the PBI package.) It also showed the exact same symptoms. Openoffice is a major app and it has been unusable since I did a clean install of PCBSD about December 25, 2015.
