Rebooted per directions. Checked for updates. Installed them all (151 of them). Launched OO Writer. While checking out features, I clicked TOOLS > BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATABASE. Wham! OO went down like it was shot through the head. I got an error message: "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically. "The following files will be recovered: Untitled1" OO does this repeatedly, every time I click TOOLS >BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATABASE. Am I doing something wrong? Let me know, please! Thanks for any help. 3-Ball Adv Reply June 10th, 2010 #2 Hagar Delest View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Dark Roasted Ubuntu Join Date Dec 2006 Location France Beans 1,008 DistroXubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Re: OpenOffice Crashes First make sure that Base is installed (it is not by default with Ubuntu). After restarting, Oo no longer opens files of any type. If I attempt to launch the program without opening a document, the startup screen appears - looking functional - then disappears and does nothing. I upgraded and reinstalled Oo, but to no effect. After each attempted opening of a document, message reads: "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically." Any suggestions for a fix would be much appreciated. I stress that this is not the only document which caused the crash, but the other one I needed to keep working on and so converted to .odt. It was created, from scratch, from OpenOffice as a blank file, initially saved as *.odt, then converted to *.rtf when I remembered what other computers I would need to use to edit it. bbordwell

Copy its content to the clipboard (^C), open a new empty presentation, paste (^V) and you get a rather unhelpful "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed" message. There is nothing on .xsession-errors or, trying to run writer or impress from the terminal, on stderr. I only run Ubuntu in its LTS flavour, so I am not able to try to reproduce this bug with a more recent version of OpenOffice.org.
