Rebooted per directions. Checked for updates. Installed them all (151 of them). Launched OO Writer. While checking out https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1506450 features, I clicked TOOLS > BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATABASE. Wham! OO went down like it was shot through the head. I got an error message: "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically. "The following files will be recovered: Untitled1" OO does this repeatedly, every time I click TOOLS >BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATABASE. Am I doing something wrong? Let me know, please! Thanks for any help. 3-Ball Adv Reply June 10th, 2010 #2 Hagar Delest View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Dark Roasted Ubuntu Join Date Dec 2006 Location France Beans 1,008 DistroXubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Re: OpenOffice Crashes First make sure that Base is installed (it is not by default with Ubuntu). Then check that in OOo menu Tools>Options>OOo>Java there is a version checked (wait a while so that it scans the system). If no change, try to reset your OOo user profile but don't transfer your personal data during the welcome process (if you had 2.x before), configuration files from the former version might corrupt the new profile. If still no luck, try the Sun version: [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co. Ubuntu user # 14396 Adv Reply June 11th, 2010 #3 3-Ball View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message First C

After restarting, due to an Oo no longer opens files of any type. If I attempt to launch the program without opening a document, the startup screen appears - looking functional - then disappears and does nothing. I upgraded and reinstalled Oo, but to no effect. After each attempted opening of a document, message reads: "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically." Any suggestions for a fix would be much appreciated. OpenOffice.org crashed Linux howto's, compile information, information on whatever we learned on working with linux, MACOs and - of course - Products of the big evil.... Post a reply 1 post • Page 1 of 1 oocalc: Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed by ^rooker » Sat Oct 17, 2009 6:15 pm [PROBLEM] On Ubuntu hardy 8.04, OpenOffice spreadsheet (v2.4) suddenly stopped working (I presume after a recent package upgrade). Other parts of OpenOffice.org (draw, writer, ...) were working fine. When starting it, you are presented a message saying: Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically. The list of "The following files will be recovered" was empty, and after pressing "OK" nothing happened - and OpenOffice.org did not start. [SOLUTION]I reinstalled the following packages:Code: Select allopenoffice.org-base-core
openoffice.org-calc
openoffice.org-common
openoffice.org-coreThat fixed the startup-crash problem.[Things I've tried, that didn't help]1) To check if it might have been a local (user-specific) problem, I tried removing the "~/.openoffice.org2" folder to reset my user-specific settings, but the error persisted.2) Starting it from the comandline (/usr/bin/oocalc), gave the following error message:javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment! I've tried installing the package openoffice.org-java-common, which removed the javaldx error, but did not fix the startup problem of oocalc. 3) It was claiming to recover a document, so I ran it with "oocalc -norestore". Did not help either. 0 Jumping out of an airplane is not a basic instinct. Neither is breathing underwater. But put the two together and you're traveling through space! ^rooker Site Admin Posts: 1271Joined: Fri Aug 29, 2003 8:39 pm Reputation: 0 Top Post a reply 1 post • Page 1 of 1 Return to Knowledge Base Jump to: Select a forum ------------------ Computer/Tech related, Hard & Software Knowledge Base HowTo's Help!!
