(which i installed after ubuntu, which helped in screwing up the ubuntu boot) Most help I found for this tell me to boot to live cd (which i'm on now) say to run grub in terminal and type find /boot/grub/stage1 or find /grub/stage1 and both returned Error 15: File not found I get the same error when i boot to the SGD (Super-Grub Disc) and try any of the linux booting options. I can't get ubuntu to run. Adv Reply February 13th, 2011 #2 oldfred View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Super Master Roaster Join Date Jun 2009 Location SW Forida BeansHidden! I've got https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65161 a 4 GB (sda) drive and a 16 GB (sdb) drive. the partitions are laid out as follows:sda1 - 150mb /boot partitionsda5 - / partitionsdb1 - /home partitionfstab:UUID=04a14de4-d76b-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=250859 /home ext2 defaults 0 1UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx /boot ext2 defaultsn 0 1UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx / ext2 defaults 0 1(the xs are just random hex numbers... didn't want to recopy them all but I error 15 will if it's important.)menu.lst# (0) Arch Linuxtitle Arch Linuxroot (hd0,0)kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/[the same hex as was the / partition in my fstab] roinitrd /kernel26.img# (1) Arch Linuxtitle Arch Linux Fallbackroot (hd0,0)kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/[the same hex as was the / partition in my fstab] roinitrd /kernel26-fallback.imgAll goes well until I attempt to install grub. It quits and tells me error 15 file to check tty5. There, it sais:Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... noChecking if "/grub/stage1" exists... noerror 15: File not foundI checked /boot/grub/ and stage1 isn't there. /grub doesn't exist.I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated, as my google-fu seems to have failed me Edit: forgot 1 thing: grub then find /boot/grub/stage1 yields (hd2,0). Changing my menu.lst accordingly doesn't seem to do anything. The bootloader is on the MBR of the usb stick and I want to put it onto the harddrive. I have tried running grub and setting up the MBR on the hard drive, but attemts to load the kernel fail with "Error 15: File not found". The commands I used to try to install grub to the MBR are shown below: grub> root (hd0,0) root (hd0,0) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 grub> setup (hd0) setup (hd0) Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... yes Checking if "/grub/stage2" exists... yes Checking if "/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes Running "embed /grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 30 sectors are embedded. succeeded Running "install /grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+30 p (hd0,0)/grub/stage2 /grub/grub.conf"... succeeded Done. grub> kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32.19-163.fc12.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup-LogVol00 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32.19-163.fc12.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup-LogVol00 Error 15: File not found grub> The file vmlinuz-2.6.32.19-163.fc12.i686.PAE does exist on /dev/sda1 (which as I understand it = hda0 in grub) Anyone know what might be happening here ? Note: I'm not entirely sure exactly what grub does when booting the kernel. I used anaconder to install grub and the menu.lst file sets the root device as root (hd1,0) for some reason (there is a device.map file which points (hd1) to /dev/sda - perhaps it uses that ?).
