Hey, I am short on usb-ports so I wanted puppy to be in sda1/wary53 http://www.pcguide.com/vb/archive/index.php/t-78344.html Universal Instal via frugal then grub into MBR. I used the menu.lst entry the universal installer suggested. But i got Error 15 file not found when trying to run that entry. After a long time of trying myself error 15 I went to an IRC help chat. There they told me the entry should be root (hd0,0) and NOT rootnoverify (hd0,0) I was told that rootnoverify does not mount the partition... Now it works fine. Did I mess something up or the universal installer? Back to top ICPUG Joined: 24 Jul 2005Posts: 1301Location: UK Posted: Thu 17 May 2012, 08:01 Post subject: Welcome to the kennels maxe! I think the answer to your query error 15 file is that you done OK. The Universal Installer is not perfect - in fact I would argue it is not universal! Yes the universal installer My menu.lst entries are all like this one: # Linux bootable partition config begins title racy53 on /dev/sda3) root (hd0,2) kernel /racy53/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=normal pdev1=sda3 initrd /racy53/initrd.gz # Linux bootable partition ends ... and my grub was hand made using grub --help and man grub _____________________ edited later @rjbrewer, are you sure your post is about grub error? Was probably some other issue; like typo, or spacing. _________________ Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram. Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram. Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram. EEE PC 4G, Puppy 4.3.1, Frugal install. Proceedure: - Boot up from CD [OK] - Partition HDD and format as ext2 [OK] - Format USB flash-drive to FAT32 [OK] - Install Puppy to USB drive using universal installer [OK] - Complete boot-loader proceedure [OK] - Reboot [OK] System responds: Error 2 and will not boot. Very helpful. Anyone know what error 2 means? Sylvander - have you ever managed to install Puppy to boot from a USB flash-drive? Mini-Me05-07-2011, 02:32 AMI've had a guts full of this - life(or installing an OS) is NOT supposed to be this difficult. :( I now have a bootable CD of Pupeee for the Asus EEE PC, which works great(the CD, that is), but when I install, I now get Error 15 - File not found. At one point during the installation of GRUB, I was asked where the installation was. My HDD is seen by Linux as sda1, so I put /dev/sda1 in the box - perhaps I was supposed to put something else? The box did say that Puppy users accept the default, but there was nothing in the box as default, so I had to put something in there... Paul Komski05-07-2011, 02:47 AMHave never had problems booting to USB (with SD Card Readers and Pen drives and external hard drives) as long as the PC supports this. It looks as if an earlier version of GParted was used than the distro you installed - resulting in an error with GRUB. So use Gparted from an earlier than 4.3 puppy, is the advice from http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/puppy-71/install-fine-grub-in-mbr-throws-error-2-a-803798/page2.html Sylvander05-07-2011, 07:55 AM1. "Sylvander - have you ever managed to install Puppy to boot from a USB flash-drive?" YES, but... Since my hardware could not boot USB... I resorted to using a Wakepup2 bootable floppy... And that successfully loaded the Puppy from the USB Flash Drive. I don't bother with that now. 2. "Anyone know what error 2 means?"
