As described here, I ran the universal installer and chose Harddisk, Then i create a small partition with gparted (ext3, 1GB) and Puppy copied all the needed files from the Live-CD to the directory. In my case this was /tmp/boot/... After that Puppy asks me to modify Grub menu.lst. Since I couldn't find it, I started installing by opening "grub config" program through the error 15 file not found press any key to continue menu. All went smooth and I was asked to put the path where to install, and I used /dev/sda1 since it's my hard drive. After restarting i come to the grub boot manager where chosing Linux (on dev/sda1) results in Error 15: File not found. Is this path "TMP/boot/..." somehow wrong (Puppy 5.2 did put it there automatically)? Why is this happening? grub share|improve this question edited Mar 19 '12 at 18:30 Renan 12.3k64365 asked Mar 19 '12 at 17:37 Email 1235 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted Here are foolproof instructions to get it running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxVOH3mo3Gw share|improve this answer answered Mar 20 '12 at 1:25 Email 1235 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. I'm guessing there was a kernel update that went badly, as people are pointing out that there was a power outage this week. I think it caught the server in the midst of updating the kernel. Anyway, here's some information. When working through the grub prompt (which is all I can get to) I https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/415457-Dreaded-Error-15-File-Not-Found run through the steps of the tutorial here: Solving Boot Problems with Grub - 2nd Edition - Linux Forums Where I use the following commands: Code: root (hd0,2) kernel (hd0,2)/ I hit tab to list possible files, and I find vmlinuz2.6.5-7.316-smp I use that as the kernel, and then use the following command: Code: initrd (hd0,2)/ hit tab again, and come up with the only file: initrd-2.6.5-7.244-smp-old Obviously these two will not play well with each other. Any ideas? EEE PC 4G, Puppy 4.3.1, Frugal install. Proceedure: - Boot up from CD [OK] - Partition HDD and format as ext2 [OK] - Format USB flash-drive to FAT32 [OK] - Install Puppy to USB drive using universal installer [OK] - Complete boot-loader proceedure [OK] - Reboot [OK] System responds: Error 2 and will not boot. Very helpful. Anyone know what error 2 means? Sylvander - have you ever managed to install Puppy to boot from a USB flash-drive? Mini-Me05-07-2011, 02:32 AMI've had a guts full of this - life(or installing an OS) is NOT supposed to be this difficult. :( I now have a bootable CD of Pupeee for the Asus EEE PC, which works great(the CD, that is), but when I install, I now get Error 15 - File not found. At one point during the installation of GRUB, I was asked where the installation was. My HDD is seen by Linux as sda1, so I put /dev/sda1 in the box - perhaps I was supposed to put something else? The box did say that Puppy users accept the default, but there was nothing in the box as default, so I had to put something in there... Paul Komski05-07-2011, 02:47 AMHave never had problems booting to USB (with SD Card Readers and Pen drives and external hard drives) as long as the PC supports this. It looks as if an earlier version of GParted was used than the distro you installed - resulting in an error with GRUB. So use Gparted from an earlier than 4.3 puppy, is the advice from http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/puppy-71/install-fine-grub-in-mbr-throws-error-2-a-803798/page2.html Sylvander05-07-2011, 07:55 AM1. "Sylvander - have you ever managed to install Puppy to boot from a USB flash-drive?" YES, but... Since my hardware could not boot USB... I resorted to using a Wakepup2 bootable floppy... And that successfully loaded the Puppy from the USB Flash Drive. I don't bother with that now. 2. "Anyone know what error
