Recently, I decided to upgrade my drive to ext4. So, I created another partition, copied my current partition over grub error windows 7 there (sudo cp -r -a) and then copied it back to my original partition after formatting. Now, when I boot up, I get: "Error 15" and it stops there. Before, It says it is in stage 1.5. I believe Error 15 is a file not found error. I followed this thread: reinstalled grub (at hd0) and told it that root is at (hd0,0). I am completely lost as to what do now. Is there a way I can tell Grub to be move verbose? I would like to know what file it can't find, stuff like that. I also need to make sure that I'm counting my partitions correctly... they are based on the physical location of the partition, and not the order created, correct? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I want my Jaunty Jackalope back! Can I please get some help? And while I'm here.... Does anyone know how far in devel

Edit Remove 2 Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone grub (Ubuntu) Edit New https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362289 Undecided Unassigned Edit Also affects project (?) Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Binary package hint: grub I am using ext4 as my / partition. After a system crash grub will no longer boot with Error 15. I had to boot from CD or USB and run update-grub to fix it. This happened every time error 15 it crashed (my system was crashing a lot due to suspend/resume issues). It would boot fine after most if not all normal restarts. I Updated to grub-pc and everything is working fine. How come grub-pc is not installed when selecting ext4 during install? or at least a suggestion? I was using grub version 0.97-29ubuntu53 NOTE: attached grub error 15 logs are after I updated to grub-pc, ie a working system, sorry. Pretty bad so far, I didn't know I can run update-grub so I actually reinstalled my system twice now. See full activity log To post a comment you must log in.
