Resolution: Disable McAfee's On-Access Scan, uninstall SURA from the command line, then reinstall SURA and re-enable McAfee's On-Access Scan. Follow the same procedure for AVG's Resident Shield (see Comments section below). Background: McAfee's On-Access Scan and AVG's Resident Shield prevent SURA from creating an instance of 'rasphone.pbk' in the C:\Users\netid\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk https://answers.syr.edu/display/network/SURA+Error+623+-+Could+not+find+phone+book+entry folder on Windows Vista or Windows 7. If this file already exists in the folder, there is no problem, but if it does not, the above error occurs. Uninstalling and reinstalling SURA without disabling McAfee's On-Access Scan or AVG's Resident Shield will not resolve the error. Procedure: Right-click on the McAfee "V" shield icon or AVG patchwork icon in the notification area Select "Disable On-Access Scan" for McAfee or 'Open' for AVG (see Comments section below) Open a command line window by typing 'cmd' and hitting Enter in Windows' Search box on the start menu Drag the SURA executable into the command line window Add a space followed by '/uninstall' to the end of the command line and hit Enter Type 'exit' and hit Enter to close the command line window Reinstall SURA by launching 'sura.exe' and logging in normally Once connected, right-click on the McAfee "V" shield icon and select "Enable On-Access Scan" (For AVG, see the Comments section below) Comments To disable or enable AVG's Resident Shield, open AVG, click Resident Shield, and uncheck or check box. If unable to drag the SURA executable into the command line window, navigate to the folder where SURA.exe is stored by using the 'cd' command at
Posted August 9th, 2005, 2:23 pm I have been using (and enjoying) Firefox for quite a while with no problems. For the last http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=303680 several weeks however, when I navigate from one page to the next, http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?3,120265 I am bombarded with the Windows error message “Error 623" – navigating to “bostonworks.boston.com” always gets the error(s). Navigating to the same pages with IE works as expected. This recent flood of error messages makes it impossible to use Firefox. Microsoft help tells me this problem is VPN related. I am error 623 running “Windows XP Professional” and connecting to the internet through a Bellsouth DCL line. Is anyone else seeing this problem? eleanor Posts: 1167Joined: March 5th, 2005, 6:55 pmLocation: California Posted August 9th, 2005, 3:13 pm Haven't seen any single definitive answer to this. I went through it myself, and I really don't know what finally fixed the problem. It's NOT necessarily a VPN error 623 windows issue. See if anything here might be helpful: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... duct=winxp http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=256995 http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 5&start=15 Windows 7 Home SP2 linguacious Guest Posted August 14th, 2005, 4:07 pm Thanks for the info. It gives me a better feel for the problem but nothing suggested in the links you posted gets rid of the error message. AI'm still muddling slong with the error messages popping up all over the plasce. It gives me the feeling thast someone over in Microsoft is having themselves a good chuckle. kenace0 Posts: 482Joined: August 14th, 2005, 9:04 amLocation: new mexico u.s.a. Microsoft seems to tie this problem to as VPN but I'm not using VPNs and others suggest it has nothing at all to do with VPNs (at least as it applies to this repetetive Error 623 when navigating). kenace0 Posts: 482Joined: August 14th, 2005, 9:04 amLocation: new mexico u.s.a. Posted by: 1234 Date: November 22, 2011 03:21AM Hello, I am on Win XP SP3, and have been using K-Meleon 1.5.4 for about a year. I connect to the internet via a LAN-network-cable. (direct internet connection) I have no VPN installed and haven't done anything to the old dial-up connection settings for a long long time. A month ago, I suddenly started to get this Error Message: "Error 623 The System Could Not Find the Phone Book Entry for this Connection" when opening websites. It is really annoying, it comes up 20 times in a row and I have to click "ok" to get rid of the notice box all the time. But if did it finally, the webpage does load all right. Been waiting for it to vanish as it started, but it doesn't. Have googled this, but all advice focusses on a different Windows version (98 / 00) and dial-up, neither of which I use. Any help?? Thanks! Options:Reply•Quote Re: Error 623: The system could not find the phone book.. Posted by: 1234 Date: February 02, 2012 10:31PM Any hints? Still get that, no matter if I use WLAN, UMTS or LAN cable. All internet solutions seem to apply to Win 2000, but I am on XP. Cheers!
