I'm getting the following error when I try to install Half Life 2. 'Error 1305. Error reading from file: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\base source shared sounds.gcf. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.' It happens on disk 3. Anybody else getting this error? I'm doing a full install, so this is not the CS Source error. Needless to say, its very frustrating when you pay $55 for a game and it won't install. I then attempted to install Half-Life 2 on another PC to see if I http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/41572-13-error-installing-half-life had a defective disk. After seeing that one of my other computers could get past the first installation disk, I knew that the issue was with my gaming rig. I found an updated firmware version for my Toshiba DVD SD-M1802 drive and upgraded the firmware from 1030 to version 1034. I was then able to install Half-Life 2 without any further issues. Many folks have been complaining http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33798055 about error message #1305 on other web sites and have been returning this game thinking that they had one or more faulty CD's. I believe that the solution to this issue is simply updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive. It worked for me. mfisher1967 View Public Profile Find More Posts by mfisher1967 mfisher1967's System Specs Jan 5, 2005, 10:52 AM #2 SubCog Radeon Arctic Islands Join Date: Jan 2003 Location: Caketown Posts: 15,892 that's pretty scary that theres at least 1305 different installation errors. __________________ Quote: Originally Posted by OzzieBloke If Half Life 3 came out now, my interest level in the game would be comparable to the effort I went into drawing a parallel between my interest and something else in this post. deskt0p: 3.5ghz fx6300 - Radeon 6850 - 8 gigs memory lapt0p: HP ENVY dv7-7212nr - 3.4 GHz/2.4 GHz core i7 - 8 gigs ram - geforce 650m Just finished: Portal 2, Quantum Conundrum, Sonic Generations Currently playing: Crysis1, UT2k4, Remake Quake riva tnt tnt2 32 meg geforce2mx kyro 2 radeon8500 radeon9600 radeon9800pro radeon x800pro geforce 8800gtx radeon 6850 SubCog View Public Profile Visit SubCog's homepage! Problem is I run a wireless connection and this could take forever. Is there any other way around this? I assure you the disks do not need to be replaced. They look clean as a whistle. #1 Hankerton, Jan 3, 2005 Cable God Diamond Member Joined: Jun 25, 2000 Messages: 3,251 Likes Received: 0 I'd try copying the disks to a temp folder half life 2 and then run the install from there. That might work. #2 Cable God, Jan 3, 2005 KB Diamond Member Joined: Nov 8, 1999 Messages: 4,552 Likes Received: 2 Is this the "can't find file hl2.ico1 file in hl24.cab" install error? I got that particular error and to get around I just clicked, next, next next ..... instead of customizing the install to remove Counter-Strike Source. At first I thought it was my bad CD-ROM drive but after testing it again I realized it was valve/viviendas poor QA that let the bug through. #3 KB, Jan 3, 2005 (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
