If the system sees the other drive, then the problem is in the disk drive and not in the computer. If the problem is found to be in the disk drive, check the drive select jumpers on the drive. The drive should be set to "cable select" and attached to the last ("master") connector on the cable. I have, however, seen a few older Maxtor drives that fail to respond when set to "cable select," but run successfully when set to "master." 0 LVL 33 Overall: Level 33 Windows XP 5 PCs 1 Desktops_PCs 1 Message Expert Comment by:CarlWarner2010-07-02 This would seem to be more of a hardware issue than a Windows XP issue. >> i connected 80 GB IDE Maxtor Hard drive Is this the only hard drive in the PC replacing a previous one? Is the IDE cable attached to it properly where the Maxtor can be recognized as the "Master" device? Is the jumper on the Maxtor set where it's either "Master" or "Cable Select"? 0 Message Author Comment by:network162010-07-02 Yes this is the only hard drive connected to the pc. NO the jumper is in different place other than master and cable select. If i have to change the jumper to master or cable select what is the d

Error Auto-sensing Internal Hard Disk Drive
to vote Hi, My WHS froze last night and I couldn't access it by any method. Neither with WHS Console log on, Shared Folders "myserver".homeserver.com or with Ctrl-Alt- https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26304522/Error-auto-sensing-primary-master-hard-disk-drive.html Del directly on the server. So I decided to reboot it by holding the Power Button in for 10 sec. Now my Server wouldn't start, but displays the message: Error Auto-Sensing Primary Hard Disk Drive0 I've tried checking the cables and reapplied the Disk detect to Auto in the Bios, but no luck. https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c9365bcd-92cb-4bbc-979f-0ac89b3f4f1c/error-autosensing-primary-hard-disk-drive0?forum=whshardware I am using a Dell Dimension 8200 (with the latest Bios version) with 2 brand new Digital Western 500 GB disks. I was wondering if I can switch the 2 disks and put Disk 0 in Disk 1 's place? Are these disks mirrored with each other and will this work? Does anyone have a good solution as I don't want to loose all my Data? Are any Disk tools to save my disk? Even if reinstallation goes awry, the files themselves will be safe. If you don't get that option (all you see is the option for "new installation") you will need to take additional steps. This

Sometimes, just rebooting solved the problem but then it became stubborn and would not reboot. I checked the BIOS and sure enough, the 2nd drive was hard disk not detected. ( I have two 500 GB sata drives in the system that are not set up in a RAID config. Just drives C and D.) I used that second drive only for system backups. I physically disconnected the 2nd drive and turned it off in BIOS and everything has been working fine for a week now. Today, I booted and got the same error error auto sensing message. When I hit F1 to continue, it said there was no PRIMARY master. I checked the BIOS and lo-an-behold, it doesn't see the primary drive now. I unplugged the computer for an hour and then started it back up. It works fine now. I find it hard to believe that both drives failed within a week or so of each other. Could there be something else that is causing this problem? SATA controller maybe? I'm at a loss. I am running Windows 7 and thankfully have the system backed up to two other drives. Open your case and find your secondary hard drive. you should see some pins and a little jumper near where the ribbon cable is plugged in on some of the pins, this should be moved to the set of pins marked slave. on your main drive th

I tried starting it up the other day and it started throwing out all these messages, and if I remember correctly it started with saying that it was doing a CPU check, or something of that effect. It went on an infinite loop doing several things for four hours, and then I finally restarted it... then it tried to do the exact same thing... I restarted several times, but it never let me continue past that. Finally, I gave up for the day... then the next day, yesterday, I tried starting it up again. Instead of booting up, it simply had the error: Error auto-sensing primary hard disk drive0 Strike F1 to continue, or F2 to enter setup utility (or whatever it is the second line says) I have no idea at all why it started doing this. It's a new HDD, and it's never given me problems before. I have an IDE/SATA converter thing for the HDD. I tried a different HDD, and that one was found... but, instead o
