Solved IBM Server RAID problem Posted on 2011-06-09 Server Hardware 3 Verified Solutions 10 Comments 2,419 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-11 Hi, I have 2 identical Ibm servers with the same problem. I setup RAID 1 with 2 disks on the server. The servers boot into linux no problem but only if one of the disks is present, i.e. it will not boot up if you remove one of the drives(mirror not working properly). I get the following error "I9990301 Hard Drive Boot sector error" and so the system just keeps trying to PXE boot. I noticed that during bootup a second array seems to be created (Array 1) even though I only created Array 0 (mirrored) in the array setup utility. There is also a SAN connected via optical cables. Any ideas ? Are those disks compatible with the server? dark overnight. The server was running Citrix XenServer 5.5 with Microsoft Small Business Server 2008. Both XenServer and SBS were offline, but the broadband service was active, and other machines on the network were alive and we were able to connect to them remotely. Thus we knew something had happened to the server, and it wasn't just a power failure or internet outage. It might have been a simple cable problem, it might be powered off, or something more serious. The failure occurred overnight and we discovered it on Saturday morning, so we made https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27089308/IBM-Server-RAID-problem.html arrangements to gain entry to the building and see what was going on. Once at the console, we were greeted with:I9990301 Hard Disk Drive Boot Sector Error1962 No Operating System InstalledThis is an IBM/Lenovo BIOS message, so the problem was that the BIOS couldn't see the volume on the storage array even to allow XenServer to start. The https://kb.cadzow.com.au:444/cadzow/details.aspx?ID=2597 MegaRAID BIOS in the Lenovo told the story: the logical volume was offline, and 3 out of 4 physical drives were reporting errors:In a situation like this, there's a temptation to use the onboard utilities to see if a “repair” will bring the volume back to life. The problems with the drive might be a small number of bad sectors, or just a minor bit of easy-to-fix corruption in the RAID array configuration. But the risk is that this will complicate any repairs required by data recovery experts in the event that it doesn't do the trick.Having found that the server was dead, we altered the client's MX records to allow email to flow to a temporary location until the server could be put back online. We took some advice from a data recovery firm who specialises in RAID arrays, and decided to first investigate the possibility of bringing the server back to life with the existing drives. True, the drives could no longer be trusted, but if the server

I loaded a 64GB USB with the lubuntu image, and burned plpbt.iso on a CD and it doesn't boot, it keeps bringing me to the "Press F1 to boot after inserting disk" screen, I press F1 and get I9990305 error on the screen.Just to varify I put the plop boot CD in a different computer and it boots with no problem, I also tried to boot hard disk drive the 600E with XP boot CD, Ubuntu live CD and Lubuntu install CD and all boot fine. Any thoughts? « Last Edit: December 05, 2013, 07:26:57 AM by avig70 » Logged Mario Newbie Posts: 14 Re: IBM TP600E I9990305 (no os found) error « Reply #1 on: February 25, 2014, 15:05:44 PM » I know this is 3 months old now, but lenovo has a error code list for the TP600 :http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=lwik-3sr4pwThere it says :I9990301 1.
