It means that Hard Disk 1, which is either the first or second harddisk in the laptop, has failed. First open the BIOS on your latop. Before windows startup there should be a Compaq logo on screen. There also is some text saying which key to press to access BIOS. In BIOS, try opening some menus and look for a menu that shows your disk drive. In the same menu should be your harddisk. If it is there, go to A. If not, go to B. A: The disk is not broken, it just made a write error that destroyed WIndows. Insert the disk with your operating system on it into the laptop, and reinstall it. Your data is gone, but the laptop will work. If reinstalling the OS gives errors, and is unable to complete, go to B. B: Your harddisk is broken. There is no way to fix it, and you will need a new one. Contact Compaq if your warranty is still valid, and if not, take it to the nearest computer shop and ask for a new harddisk. If you have any more questions or troubl
