Hard Drive imminent failure? Started by dan7brit , Mar 16 2010 03:15 PM Please log in to reply #1 dan7brit Posted 16 March 2010 - 03:15 PM dan7brit Member Member 91 posts Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I have had a HP Pavilion A6411 desktop computer for the last 2 years. I have recently had the occurence where everytime I have powered it up it has went straight to DOS and informed me that: "Hard disk failure is imminent -back up Hard Disk and have it replaced!". Now I have checked on my operating system (Windows Vista) through the Device Manager and it informs me that the HD device status is "working properly". I have checked with my Norton anti-virus and all is clear. I have used my HP diagnostic test tool and it reads as follows: Testing CPU = passed; Testing Memory = Passed; Testing device 4 (CD and DV drive) = passed; Testing Boot path = passed; Testing ST325031OAS SCSI disk (master hard drive) = "Error, Smart test failed on the drive" -Error code: BIOHD-7". Any ideas what is happening? Thanks for your help. 0 Advertisements #2 DaffyKantReed Posted 16 March 2010 - 03:30 PM DaffyKantReed Member Member 485 posts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.If you run the Seagate diagnostic utility from a bootable CD, you will very likely see SMART errors. I would shut the PC off and leave it off until I had replaced the hard drive. 0 #3 Broni Posted 16 March 2010 - 05:49 PM Broni Kraków my love :) Member 12,300 posts That message doesn't lie. Back up your data BEFORE you do anything else, including manufacturer tests. 0 #4 123Runner Posted 16 March 2010 - 06:02 PM 123Runner Member 4k Member 4,301 posts You should also have some type of backup system that is backing up your data on a regular basis to another drive, CD, DVD, or on line. 0 Back to Hardware, Components and Peripherals · Next Unread Topic → Similar Topics 1 user(s) are reading this topic 0 members, 1 guests, 0 anonymous users Reply to quoted postsClear Geeks to Go Forum →
