Obviously the computer recognizes the HDD or how else would it know how much memory the drives have.Reboot and go into BIOS to attempt to diagnose, only to find that the hard disk in the first in the boot sequince followed hard disk 3f0 by dvd drive, then usb floppy. The information section of BIOS states that WIN 7 in the OS installed on the computer. so I run a Hard Disk Check. it says "Hard Disk Not Exist"besides the terrible grammer, I check the hard disk and it is there so i took it out and re seated it a few times hoping trial and error would prevail, and the BIOS is certain that "Hard Disk Not Exist" and gives error code 3F0. I searched 3F0 on the web and found that hundreds of HP customers are angry yet some have resolution that either cannot function in my issue or I tried the "FIX" to no avail. I need help at this point, I believe my issue may be that the hard drive needs to be wiped clean and start over, but I cannot get the boot up disk to go anywhere past a blue screen with a little bird and it says setup is starting, I let it do its thing for about 2 hours and decide its not happening and retry for the same result.I have no idea what other information you may need but please let me knowalso, I saw one fix to format the disk as followsBootrec.exebcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backupc:cd bootattrib bcd -s -h -rren c:\boot\bcd bcd.oldbootrec /RebuildBcdbootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootof course i cannot get into the command prompt through the instilation due to hanging up on "Setup is Starting"is there any way to get

I've seen this problem addressed but haven't found a solution that pertains to my situation exactly. I have a friend with a Pavilion dv5-1017nr that is suddenly giving the 3F0 code on startup (Boot Device Not Found - Please install an operating system on your hard disk). If I attempt to run the diag hard disk test, it says "Hard Disk Not Exist".I swapped the drive with another SATA drive from another laptop (a Toshiba). The drive from the Toshiba laptop boots normally in the HP and the drive from the HP boots in the Toshiba. But switching them back produces the same results in the HP. Based on that, I don't believe the connector cable or motherboard is the issue. I've also tried restoring the BIOS defaults and clearing the power, but no difference.Any ideas/suggestions? If any other information is needed, I'll be glad to provide. I thank you in advance for any assistance.Regards,--- Gary Logged gtifeldTopic StarterStarter Experience: Experienced OS: Windows 7 Re: HP Pavilion Error (3F0) « Reply #1 on: March 26, 2013, 02:05:20 PM » I should have provided more info. in the original post about the laptop in question, so here it is:HP Pavilion dv5-1017nr NotebookWindows Vista SP2 x64Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26ghz4gb RAMBIOS: F.21Once again, if any other info. is needed, I'll gladly provide it. The only things I can suggest trying before replacing the drive is:1. Shutdown the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and remove the battery. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then re-insert the b
