By the way, both my optical drives are "blind" (they still open and close but can't read anything). So anyhow, I re-started the computer and must have pressed F8 because a screen popped up and I was asked to choose a boot device. I guess both my primary and slave storage devices are Western Digital (I forgot what the slave was though) so when I saw the options, I picked the WDC one (I now know that was the slave). After I did that, I once again got to the "Reboot and select proper Boot device" screen and the next screen was just the "_" (the prompt?) going down line after line indefinitely. ProfessorbaudinJun 18, 2013, 12:53 AM Okay I'll try it in another PC tomorrow. Here's my theory, tell me if seems likely: Could it be that my power supply was failing (causing my PC to shut down randomly) eventually, my power is at the point where it doesn't have enough power to boot my HDD. Does that theory sound likely? popatimJun 18, 2013, 7:25 PM Hdd spinning up uses about 10w. Motherbd uses 40 ishcpu uses alot more depending on what you have 15w to 150wThe fact that you can boot up to see the POST message seems to indicate its not a power issue. When you turn on the computer put a finger on top of the hdd, if it you can feel it spinning up then its even less likely to be a power problem. Now when booting my Window 7 pc I get the hard disk message of "Primary Master Hard Disk Error" that is followed with Press F1 to resume. After I do this the pc will boot. I've ruled out a physical hard drive error and now I'm at a dead end. Could this be something in the BIOS settings?
