Solving BSOD 0x124 - PC not booting into Win7 Started by Mrs_gumby , Nov 10 2013 03:56 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/513614/solving-bsod-0x124-pc-not-booting-into-win7/ PM Please log in to reply 11 replies to this topic #1 Mrs_gumby Mrs_gumby Members 5 posts OFFLINE Local time:08:59 AM Posted 10 November 2013 - 03:56 PM My daughter's PC is having severe BSOD problems. Today we've had multiple instances of: Kernel Power 0x00000124 Machine_Check_Exception 0x0000009C Uncorrectable Hardware Error 0x00000124 At this point, it won't boot into windows at all normally. Choosing to Attempt repair windows ends up back at the same Window's isn't starting properly screen. Safe mode stays up 2 minutes at the very most between BSOD's, often less. I've tried a different power supply. BUT it was a used one from my son's old system. All the fans are working. There have been no previous problems with overheating. Last year we had a failing hard drive, video card and intermittent problems with USB ports. This is a home-built system. Motherboard MSI K9VGM-V with an Athlon X2 series CPU. Running Windows 7 with 2G Ram. Any ideas on narrowing down the cause? Edited by hamluis, 11 November 2013 - 07:44 AM. Moved from Win 7 to Internal Hardware - Hamluis. Back to top BC AdBot (Login

Join Date: Apr 2011 Posts: 4 BSOD - Stop http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=206995 0124 - How to identify fault? Hey everyone. I put together my first PC yesterday http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/w7-bsod-uncorrectable-hardware-error-other-problems-on-desktop.171313/ and all was running well until tonight. I'll start by posting my system: i5 2500k Gigabyte p67a-ud4-b3 Corsair XMS3 classic 1.5v 9,9,9,24. NZXT Hale90 650w PSU Asus HD 6850 WD Caviar Black 1Tb 64mb cache. Windows 7 64bit My drivers are up to date, windows 7 is fully up to date and the bios is up to date. Basically, when I try to hardware error play Battlefield Bad Company 2, after about 20mins of gameplay (or less) the screen blacks out and the sound freezes creating a buzzing sound through the speakers, which is followed by the BSOD. I have used bluescreenview to view the minidump file and it says the driver Hal.dll was the cause. From reading around the net a stop 0124 is a hardware issue? More info: Blue screen says "the system ecountered an uncorrectable hardware error" 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xfffffa8006088028, uncorrectable hardware error 0x00000000bf800000, 0000000000200001) I have used the windows memory diagnostic tools and no errors have been detected. # My question is what else can I do to find out what the problem might be? It only occurs when playing games (at the moment) so my first thought is its a GPU issue? Will reinstalling windows help? I should also point out that my RAM is rated at 1600Mhz but is operating at 1333Mhz according to the bios. I figured I would change it to the speed its rated for and my system went into an on, off loop. I had to clear CMOS to stop this and another occasion I needed to remove 1 stick of RAM. Other issues I have had are my music stutters on occasion - I don't know if its related in anyway. But it seems unusual to me as the machine wasn't being taxed particularly when this occurs. Any suggestions as for what to do next would be amazing as I'm a little bit lost! At first it was only happening while running games. After reinstalling graphics drivers and testing other fixes a few times (and still getting blue screens), the problem began to spread outside of the games and into basic applications. I tried to fix and figure out what was going on, but the time between crashes kept getting shorter and shorter. Eventually, I couldn't even get to my desktop without using debug mode. Under the assumption that my quick fixes along the way were only adding more problems, I decided to just reinstall Windows. It didn't help. I was getting anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours of activity before crashing. Since the problem was continuing I had to rule software out as the cause. Assuming it was a hardware problem, I ordered replacement RAM. After switching the RAM sticks out I had a bit more success, but still only lasted about 5 or 6 hours before crashing again. Its been some time and I can operate for longer, but still occasionally get a crash outside of a game. Then I started experiencing an issue where my programs randomly end on me. Firefox, AIM and Steam being the most noticeable and annoying of them. Painfully had to retype messages like this on tech support forums elsewhere. Most recently, my computer suddenly (usually when I have various things going on at once) locks up; the screen stays stuck on whatever was showing and no inputs can be made. All I can do is a hard shutdown. The other problem of applications closing is prevalent. I'm attaching the dumps that I've both gotten recently and salvaged from before reinstalling Windows. I'm also putting text files I saved from Windows' reports of stop errors (some from multiple instances on the same days). If anyone can contribute anything to my dilemma, please post it here.
