Command Prompt:> net use lpt1: \computer_nameprinter The password is invalid for \computer_nameprinter. Enter the user name for ‘computer_name': user Enter the password for ‘computer_name': System error 5 has occured. Access is denied. To make matter worse, no matter what security settings and permissions you have changed, the net use delete command net use command simply is not working. The reason for this issue is because in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, non-administrators cannot remap an LPT port to a network printer, when the LPT port is already assigned to the local parallel port. In other words, only a member of the Administrators group can use the net use command tomap the LPT port for a local (hardware) parallel port to a network printer. According to Microsoft, this behaviour is desinged to help improve security. Solutions To solve the cannot net use lpt1 problem, there are several ways: Log on as an administrator Use the devcon disable *PNP0401 command to disable the LPT port mapping to the local parallel port when the computer starts. The devcon disable *PNP0401 command is for LPT1. To find the hardware ID for other LPT ports, use the devcon findall * command. When I try to print wirelessly via DOS on my laptop (because I have a certain program that can only print via command prompt), it doesn't print... Strangely the sample print function (as well as any Windows print function) works perfectly if I do it right on WinXP.... Any solutions? All new machines running XP but their warehousing software is DOS based. Each machine has a printer and 3 of those are used by the DOS program - labels, shipping list and invoices. There is a start up batch file for the program for all users and includes 'net use lpt1: \\computername\printer' 'net use lpt2: \\computername\printer' etc..On the 3 machines the local LPT port has been set to mirror the batch file setting. Machine 3 the LPT port is set to 3. On one machine (no 1) however I cannot access the lpt2 port through the program. I can print out through windows, I can run a simple command c:\Dir > \\machine2\printer and I get the print out but if I use the command 'net use lpt2: \\machine2\printer I get a 1202 system error "The local device name has a remembered connection to another network resource" It's only on this machine and I'm absolutely stumped. If I start in safe mode with network, the command is accepted....Has anybody any bright ideas? :-) Share Flag This conversation is currently closed to new comments. 3 total posts (Page 1 of 1) + Follow this Discussion · | Thread display: Collapse - | Expand + All Comments Collapse - by webmaster · 13 years ago In reply to system error 1202 - remem ...
