For example, I went into Explorer and chose to share a random folder using the share name xyzzy. Then, as shown in the following transcript, I could mount it: C:\Pax> net use * \\127.0.0.1\xyzzy Drive Z: is now connected to \\127.0.0.1\xyzzy. The command completed successfully. If you us
Net User. I think it may be my syntax, but I'm not sure as I thought I had done this before and all the info I can find on Net user says http://www.winvistatips.com/threads/net-user-domain-password-reset.754362/ my syntax is correct. How should this be setup? I'm getting error messages that "the option (/domain) is unknown". I'm logged on (XP machine in an AD domain) with an account that is able to change https://www.windows-commandline.com/change-user-password-in-windows-command-line/ domain passwords and I'm testing with my own user account. Net User username password /domain stev379, Feb 15, 2005 #1 Advertisements Jerold Schulman Guest On Tue, 15 Feb 2005 12:17:02 -0800, "stev379" <> wrote: net use >I'm unable to change a domain password with Net User. If username contains a space, it must be double-quoted. Net User "username" password /domain If password has a space, it must be double-quoted. Net User "username" "password" /domain Jerold Schulman Windows Server MVP JSI, Inc. http://www.jsiinc.com Jerold Schulman, Feb 16, 2005 #2 Advertisements stev379 Guest Thanks! No spaces in the name or password. Below is the error copied from a command prompt window. Any idea what might cause such an error if my syntax is correct? In the example below, "MYUSERNAME" is of course replaced with my actual username (ex. jsmith) and "DOMAIN" is replaced with the actual domain in the format of just the name and no dots (ex. microsoft instead of microsoft.com). I don't have another domain I can test on at the moment. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\>net user MYUSERNAME Pa55word /DOMAIN The option /DOMAIN is unknown. The syntax of this command is: NET USER [username [password | *] [options]] [/DOMAIN] username {password | *} /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN] username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN] More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3506. change a user password from Windows command line using net use command. The command is explained below with examples. How to change local user passwordnet user loginid newpasswordFor example, if you want to reset the password for the user John on the local computer, you can run the below command. Let's say the new password is pq12d*12@net user John pq12d*12@You may not want to provide the new password in the command prompt for obvious security reasons. Net use command allows to reset the password so that none around your desk can see it. You need to provide * in the place of password while executing net use command. You will be prompted to type the password and the password you enter won't be printed on the screen. But you need to feed the password twice to make sure that you have entered the password you intended to.example:C\>net user John * Type a password for the user: Retype the password to confirm: The command completed successfully. How to change your domain user account password:If you want to change the password for your domain account then you can do it by running the below command.net user loginid * /domainNext, you will be prompted twice to enter the password and on successful completion your domain account password will be changed. You can also provide the password in the command itself as explained above. In case the domain is not reachable then you will get the below error when you try to run the above command.System error 1355 has occurred. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."If you see any issues with net use command, please write in the comments section below about the problem you have encountered.Related Posts:Add new user accountEnable or disable user account { 9 comments… add one } Deehi on my VISTA computer i get this "System error 1355 has occurred.
