Solved Error 66 in "net use lpt1: XP Posted on 2009-02-03 Windows XP Windows Networking Server Hardware 1 Verified Solution 32 Comments 9,042 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-06 I have been successfully using a batch file to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/system-error-66-the-network-resource-type-is-not/3111ec92-bf45-e011-90b6-1cc1de79d2e2 run "net use lpt1: \\printservername\p1" on my networked WIN98 machines. I am trying to add XPpro laptops to the network, and the "net use" command gives an error 66 on all the XP machines (some have a physical parallel LPT1 port, and some do not have any parallel ports. Some of the things I have tried: 1) I am the administrator on all machines 2) I have disabled all firewalls 3) https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24109787/Error-66-in-net-use-lpt1-XP.html I can confirm network connection to print server : 192.168.1.2 4) I have tried to delete : net use lpt1: \delete 5) I have tried upper and lower case, spelling check. However I do know that the existing batch file still works on the older machine. 6) I have tried using lpt2 and lpt3 ... however it appears that any mention of the term lptx is what is triggering the error (cannot find the network resource). The XP machines act like they do not recognize the printer ports. Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK | Scroll down to and double click Server | Set Startup type to Automatic | Click Apply | Click the Start button | Click OK | Close Services. If Server is not listed in Services... This will restore the Server service (lanmanserver) so it will be listed in Services.msc. Open Network Connections... Start | Run |

I was http://www.vistax64.com/vista-print-fax-scan/78449-dos-printing-system-error-66-a.html able to print from DOS programs to a network printer on the XP machine via 'redirecting' LPT1 via the command NET USE LPT1 \\servername\printername password /user:username Using the same script on the new Vista laptop, http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/301677-port-com-redirection/ however, gives me the System error 66 has occurred The network resource type is not correct response. This occurs regardless of whether I precede the correct command with a precautionary 'delete' NET USE LPT1 /delete Any net use thoughts? Web based research turned up several dead ends. Port COM redirection Started by Alexandre Carvalho , 07 February 2012 - 06:06 PM Login to Reply Page 1 of 2 1 2 23 replies to this topic Alexandre Carvalho Members #1 Alexandre Carvalho 52 posts Posted 07 February 2012 - 06:06 PM Hello! I am having a hard time figuring out how to map com ports on Xenapp 6.5. I can map them through RDP, but when I run net use com1: \\client\com1: I get: "System error 66 has ocurred The network resource type is not correct" I think this error is because either the system detects there's nothing to map, or because I should to map to a drive letter and not to something called com1... If it's the first I can't get it why there's nothing to map. If it's the second, I've no use to map a device to a client drive... The citrix policies are set to allow com port redirection and this used to work on xenapp 5. Can anyone help me? 1360-301677-1617052 Back to top Shaun Ritchie Members #2 Shaun Ritchie 2,190 posts Posted 07 February 2012 - 06:53 PM Have you enabled COM mapping in a XenApp policy? The syntax you have is correct.----------Shaun Ritchie[Follow me on Twitter|www.twitter.com/shaunritchie_uk] 1360-301677-1617070 Helpful Answer Back to top Alexandre Carvalho Members #3 Alexandre Carvalho 52 posts Posted 08 February 2012 - 10:16 AM Well... I did it! The policies were correctly allowing com port redirection. My "problem" was that I disabled the LPT port redirection at the ICA protocol settings. Reenabling it al
