If it does, then your problem is that you are sharing a 'private' folder. There are/were some issues where users were not able to share their My Documents or Home folder, but they could share a subfolder from there, or the parent folder. → VirtualBox: how to share a folder between Linux and a Windows virtual disk Posted on April 1, 2011 by Thomas Cokelaer Tweet Let us suppose you have a Linux platform and that you have created a Windows virtual box (let us call it Windows). Now, what you would like is to be able to access to a Linux folder from your VirtualBox environment. The are two steps to follow, one within your own environment (Linux), and one within the virtual environment. The first step is to create a directory under your Linux distribution, and to make this folder accessible to the VirtualBox environment. There are two choices to create this directory: either from the VirtualBox settings or manually by using the https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=10691 following command line argument:
VBoxManage sharedfolder add "Windows" --name share --hostpath "/home/user/.VirtualBox/share"
where "Windows" is the name of your VirtualBox session, and /home/user/.VirtualBox/share the directory where shared data will be placed. The second step is done within your virtual environment. So start the Window session first. Once started, open a shell and type:
net use Z: \\vboxsvr\share
Note the space between ‘Z:' and ‘\\vboxsvr\share'. If there was no errors, the Z http://thomas-cokelaer.info/blog/2011/04/virtualbox-how-to-share-a-folder-between-linux-and-a-windows-virtual-disk/ drive should now have appeared in your computer explorer. You can now copy a file in this shared directory either from your Linux environment or your virtual Windows machine. If there was an error such as
System error 67 has occured. The network name cannot be found
Consider adding the Guest additions, remove the share folder and again step 1 and 2. This entry was posted in Computer Science and tagged virtualbox. System error 67 has occured. The network name cannot be found The settings for Shared in GUI vbox was incorrect. I saw two things, Machine and Transient. Neither are shares. Just titles. To create a share, click the "+" icon on the right. In the pop-up, is folder path. and FolderIcon named other. Choose the icon for other. You can now browse for your folder to share from the host machine. It will automatically put in the last directory as the share name. You may leave it that way or change to a different word for sharename.

I need to create a shared folder which would be shared between Windows and the MSDOS used in Virtual Box. So I used the shared folder option to setup a folder net use x on Windows. The instructions said to then type "net use x \vboxsvr\share" but that gives an error: C:\Users\eddyq>net use e \\vboxsvr\share System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found. Assuming the "vboxsvr" is to be substituted with the actual host name, I could not find an option in Virtual Box that allows me to type the host name. So I checked the server list on Windows using Map Network Drive and the server called vboxsf is not there. Searching this forum, I found someone that says there is a group called vboxsf but it is not clear how to use that. virtualbox share|improve this question asked Aug 23 at 13:33 user215779 1095 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote you can find the host name by going to: WindowsKey + Type "System" + Followed by Enter That should bring up the "System properties". Your host name is your computer name. Once you have your host name then you can do exactly as you did \\hostname\whateverfolder\ Alternately, you could do it by IP address WindowsKey + type "cmd" + Enter That brings up
