Solved group policy management - the system cannot find the file specified Posted on 2007-04-09 Windows https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/611dc9fa-67d0-4fd0-a285-f70676736826/the-system-cannot-find-the-file-specified?forum=winserverGP Server 2003 Windows XP 1 Verified Solution 7 Comments 9,565 Views Last Modified: 2013-04-30 something has happened to the group policies in sysvol\domainname.ca\policies when I run the Group Policy Management program, and I click on any of the built in GPO's, the program comes back with 'the system cannot find the specified file'. I can create new GPO's and they show up in the https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/22500716/group-policy-management-the-system-cannot-find-the-file-specified.html directory above but the existing GPO's (Default Domain Policy and Default Domain Controller) come back with the same error when you click on them. Any ideas on how to fix this? The next problem is the fact that users logging into the domain don't run any of the GPO's because the error message that I get with them is 'the user DOMAIN\user does not have RSOP data when I run rsop.msc on the workstations, I get a message stating that the rsop data and namespace is invalid 0 Question by:johnbowden Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 32 Best Solution byand235100 Sounds like corrupted policies: Run this: For a 2000-based domain: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b5b685ae-b7dd-4bb5-ab2a-976d6873129d&displaylang=en For 2003 - http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library//e926577a-5619-4912-b5d9-e73d4bdc94911033.mspx Go to Solution 7 Comments LVL 32 Overall: Level 32 Windows XP 31 Windows Server 2003 10 Message Expert Comment by:and2351002007-04-09 Does this help? http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Misc/Q_21412994.html 0 LVL 32 Overall: Level 32 Windows XP 31 Windows Server 2003 10 Message Accepted Solution by:and2351002007-04-09 Sounds like corrupted policies: Run this: For a 2000-based domain: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b5b685ae-b7dd-4bb5-ab2a-976d6873129d&displaylang=en For 2003 - http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library//e926577a-5619-4912-b5d9-e73d4bdc94911033.mspx 0 Message Author Comment by:johnbowden2007-04-09 checked it out and did not help 0 LVL 32 Overall:

When I try to edit any of the group policy objects, I get the following errors: "Failed to open the Group Policy Object. You may not have appropriate rights" "Details: The system cannot find the path specified" It then opens the Group Policy Object Editor with no options to edit anything. Within the Group Policy Object I am down as administrator, and have appropriate edit attributes. Can anyone help with this matter? I have looked on Microsoft's technet and cant find anything.
