Problem Since 2014-06-12, several of our computers (but definitely not all, not yet at least) embraced a problem with printer sharing, which was quickly explained as Windows Firewall service being offline. Attempts to start Windows Firewall service ends with failure and error http://superuser.com/questions/768449/windows-firewall-fails-to-launch-error-5-like-kb943996-but-fix-not-working no. 5 ("Access denied") returned by the service. Windows EventLog shows that the issue began at the above date and is recurring every morning at startup - or at any manual service launch attempt. Diagnostics By courtesy of Google, we quickly identified the problem has something to do with accessing subkeys of following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SharedAccess There are several websites that suggest the problem is caused by insufficient access to some significant subkeys of this key for NT Service\MpsSvc. Most authoritative source seems to be the Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB943996. While this article is about Windows Vista, it provides link to a more general website with Firewall FixIt Tool. We have tried to apply the suggestions found in the knowledge base and came up with following results: We were able to verify that only \Epoch subkey was missing the advised ACL set. We were unable to add NT Service\MpsSvc manually, as Windows was not able to find such user. We did check proper search scope (local computer) and did enable all object types. We have estabilished, that this account can be properly found and used on healthy machines. The FixIt tool did properly assign the rights to \Epoch subkey for NT Service\MpsSvc (!), but it did not sol

Access Denied Tags: Windows Device Manager Firewalls Last response: 1 December 2015 04:24 in Windows 10 Share 1N07 29 November 2015 22:48:28 (On Windows 10) I can't seem to be able to turn on windows firewall... From action center turning it on fails and it sends me to turn it on manually, but when I try and do that, nothing happens. It seems to load for a while, but nothing happens. Windows Firewall Authorization Driver is where it should be in it's file location, but when I looked in device manager I couldn't find it (showing hidden). The windows firewall service is on automatic, but won't turn on. (When I try turning it on it exits with permission denied error) base Filtering Service is on automatic and is running. WMI repository is consistent. I had a trojan in my temp files earlier, but other than that no viruses. I ran: Malwarebytes, superAntiSpyware and Spybot The problem first appeared today (I don't think it was present yesterday). I don't think anything else has changed except, I re-installed Spotify. It was unable to initialize the storage of temporary files. (I have an old version of spotify that has been tricked to not update). Help? :C UPDATE: I just ran sfc and it found some problems and apparently couldn't fix them all. This might be because I used a program to delete parts of windows that i don't want. (mainly Microsoft's spying stuff and store apps) I just don't know if the problems it found were actual problems or just "Windows 10 seems to be missing essential botnet services" This install is less than 2 weeks old, so I doubt there is that much corruption or something like that. Either way I can't really tell if there is a problem and unfortunately I don't have system restore points... (I really need to start using those...) I'll wait a few days and see if someone has ideas, but if not I guess I'll do a clean install again... More about : turn windows firewall access denied ronintexas 29 November 2015 22:56
