The "Windows Setup" screen appeared for a while and then the following error message was shown... "An unexpected error (0) occurred at line 1773 in d:\xpsp\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. Press any key to continue" I press any key and after booting from the CD, the same error message was shown. Would like to know what went http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_install/when-installing-xp-pro-from-cd-to-new-hdd-i-get-an/fa1ea374-f10f-4e2e-9c5d-1ba90e5b4ecf wrong and how to remedy this problem. Try to clean the surface on the CD2. If possible, try cleaning the lenses of your CD Unit3. If https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/9cafbf51-dac1-4ff8-837d-8980e09bfc31/cannot-setup-windows-xp?forum=itproxpsp you have access to other computer, try to read the content of that CD Media from that one and see if you still have problems for reading4. If you have access to other computer, try to make a copy of the CD Media that you are using and try again. If the problem persist might be a. corrupted file/media (you will need to get a new media from Microsoft or another store/provider or the unit of your CD might be not reading and could be damaged (most of the cases, the lenses). You can try this if you have access to other CD Rom and install it.5. If the motherboard of your computer is capable to boot from other devices, such an USB Flash Drive, you can make your USB Flash Drive bootable and copy the content of your Windows XP Media to the USB Flash Drive and boot from it and try to install Windows from itPlease let me knowRegards,JSH/ Proposed as answer by Jorge Handal Tuesday, May 19, 2009 7:28 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2009 7:28 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote hi all, thanks for the inputs. will try to clean the CD and see if it helps

After installing a brand new Samsung 160GB hard drive in an HP Pavilion ZE2000 laptop I put the installation http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/xp-pro-error-line-1773.3031021/ disk into the CD drive after the "Windows setup" finished running a message popped onto the screen that stated "An unexpected error (52225) occurred at line 5218 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c." then down on the next line it said an unexpected "Press any key to continue", so I pressed enter and it appeared that the computer was going to allow me to continue to load Windows XP. I hit F8 and agreed to the terms and after pressing enter to continue the loading process the message keeps coming up that "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD" (The CD I am using is the an unexpected error original one that came with my computer and is a valid copy of Windows XP.) Then in the next paragraph it basically tells me to put a valid copy of Windows 98, XP, 2000 etc.... once the CD has been inserted press enter to continue....I press enter to continue and the same message keeps coming up. I have no clue as to what to do. Is there anyone who has any idea what I need to do next (other than throwing my computer in front of a fast moving train...lol) Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. NOTE: Other than the new hard drive nothing else has been changed on this computer. with Western Digital utility disk that came with drive. For some reason, I cannot do a "clean" install so I re-installed 98se with no problems, then started installing XP Pro over Win 98se. I'm trying the "Upgrade" selection first (although I do not want to). I get this error message: "Unexpected error (0) occured at line 1773 in D:\xpsprtm\boot\setup\arcdisp.c." This happens on both setup attemps ("clean" or "Upgrade") after it goes to blue setup screen and checks my computer. This is a full Retail version not upgrade package. $299.95. I can boot and run to 98se ok with no problems. Other diagnostic programs show no hardware or memory defects. Reloaded K7s5a motherboard disk and all related updated drivers. Whats up.
