After installing a brand new Samsung 160GB hard drive in an HP Pavilion ZE2000 laptop I put the installation disk into the CD drive after the "Windows setup" finished running a message popped onto the http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_install/unexpected-error-32769-in-line-5218/579cedd6-fdd0-48a3-a499-2e7eba83edf6 screen that stated "An unexpected error (52225) occurred at line 5218 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c." then down on the next line it said "Press any key to continue", so I pressed enter and it appeared that the computer was going to allow me to continue to load Windows XP. I hit F8 and agreed to the terms and after pressing enter to continue the loading http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/installing-windows-xp-an-unexpected-error-52225 process the message keeps coming up that "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD" (The CD I am using is the original one that came with my computer and is a valid copy of Windows XP.) Then in the next paragraph it basically tells me to put a valid copy of Windows 98, XP, 2000 etc.... once the CD has been inserted press enter to continue....I press enter to continue and the same message keeps coming up. I have no clue as to what to do. Is there anyone who has any idea what I need to do next (other than throwing my computer in front of a fast moving train...lol) Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. NOTE: Other than the new hard drive nothing else has been changed on this computer. I will try to explain the problem as good as possible. oke, so.. two months ago my motherboard stopped working for some reason. i dilivered it to my dealer, and they placed a new motherboard an unexpected inside. Once done, i connected my old HDD and for some reason it did not work. Although i kept trying, ending up with some part of the HDD burned.. So i thought it was the fault of the HDD, and decided to buy a new one. Now i have a pretty WD Raptor X connected, and tried to install XP once again. This time everything goes well. Windows starts detecting the hardware as usual with the install CD inside when i reboot the comp, but an unexpected error it doesn;t finish. At the same point every time i get this error msg: An unexpected error (769) occurred at line 5218 in D:\nt\base\boot\setup\setup.c. Could this be a problem caused by a different part then the HDD? This is an expensive HDD, and i don;t want to blow this one as well.. I googled the error, and the only thing i found was another thread on this forum, and thats how i got here. Before i start to recover or zero my HDD, i would like to ask if some1 here has an idea if this is infact a problem caused by the HDD itself or not. And of course, What to do? Thanks in advance, Jo. Dec 15, 2007 #1 Rik Banned Posts: 3,814 Hi Jonostra and welcome to TechSpot. Windows XP (assuming that's what you have as you haven't actually said) needs to be reinstalled when the mobo (motherboard) is changed. At the very least it will need a windows repair done on it. Dec 15, 2007 #2 Jonostra TS Rookie Topic Starter Hi Rik, thanks for your fast respond. I have tried to reinstall Windows XP (yes) on the old HDD, but it was acting very slow and i couldn;t get windows re-installed, while that same HDD was acting normal on a diffirent PC. So i kept trying. But it burned for some reason when it was connected to My new 'mobo' Now however, i have this new Western Digital (WD) HDD. It is fresh, and there is n
copy of XP-Pro on a new hard drive. My CD-R drive appears to read the XP-Pro CD correctly and starts the installation. Then I get the report (approximately): "Unexpected Windows setup error 47873 occurred at line 5218 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c. Press any key to continue" Nothing happens when I press 'any key' and the installation stalls. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on and what I should do about it? Thanks in advance for advice, help, solutions, etc., etc. henriJ, Dec 1, 2008 #1 Advertisements shreedhar Guest RE: Win XP-Pro Setup Error hi am shreedhar, i have a serious problem that my computer has restarting problem , when i start my computer it automatically restart in a few second and another problem is that ,if i want to install window xp computer says that "there is no hard disk in your computer connect ur hard disk ".in few month before computer suffers from virus problem that that virus automatically change the folder name . what is the solution? shreedhar, Dec 1, 2008 #2 Advertisements John John (MVP) Guest Re: Win XP-Pro Setup Error Hi shreedhar, You should not post you problems in another user's post, it is considered as hijacking another poster's thread, you should have started a new thread for your problems. If the disk cannot be seen when you try to install Windows you probably need to press F6 and supply the disk controller drivers on a floppy diskette. Keep an eye on the text at the bottom of the screen when you boot with the Windows XP CD, you will be prompted to press F6 at the beginning of the setup routine. If your motherboard supports it, you may be able to bypass the F6 requirement by going in the BIOS and setting the hard drive controller to IDE emulation. If you have previously installed Windows XP on your computer without having to resort to F6 to install the storage drivers, the drive settings in the BIOS may be incorrect, or the hard drive may have simply died, running a drive diagnostic utility (available from the drive manufacturer) may provide some answers to your problems.
