There's way too suggestions out there and just need a fix. Thank you. Office is not easy to uninstall even when using the MS uninstaller. Sometimes a file or folder left behind will cause corruption in a new install. Also, you did not have to reinstall Office 2004 when upgrading to Snow Leopard. It was unnecessary. And, it would be better to upgrade to at least Office 2008 and better yet, Office 2011. If you receive a framework error after applying an update, try the following steps. Test after each step to see if problem is fixed. You mention uninstalling Office and manually removing the ..plist files, which suggests that you haven't removed Office correctly, but only manually deleted it. Try the entire procedure again, only this time, use the uninstaller provided by Microsoft (Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office). See if that does the trick.
