caused much grief in the ISA Server community. What is it and what can be done about it? All theses and more will be answered in tomorrow's Jerry Springer show, but for now, you can http://www.isaserver.org/articles-tutorials/articles/14120_Errors_Discussion_and_Solution.html read this article... 14120 Errors, or http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/119247/lion-server-ldap-gone-after-restart-error-14006 “ISA Server Isotropic IP Bounce” Last Updated: 6/21/2002 By Jim Harrison Background: ISA Server is firewall / proxy application that is built on Windows 2000 technology and is designed to work very closely with that functionality. As a result, any of the behaviors that Windows exhibits and ISA is dependent upon can become magnified across the clients that an unexpected are served by an ISA server. In particular, name resolution plays a large part in how ISA and its clients function. This is one of the primary causes of the 14120 errors that ISA reports. If you’re looking for a tutorial on how to set up the ISA server before you install ISA, then you want this article. Note: all ISA MMC screen shots in this article are made using the an unexpected error ISA Management MMC in Advanced mode (I don’t like “Taskpad”). Definitions: DNS - Domain Name Services; the services residing on a computer that are able to answer a name resolution query. How they answer that query depends on many settings for that server. FQDN – Fully Qualified Domain Name; this is a computer name that indicates its logical association by virtue of the domain structure associated with the name. For instance, www.microsoft.com indicates a host named “www” that lives in the domain “microsoft” under the top-level domain “com”. These names are always separated by dots “.” and are also known as “dotted decimal”. LAT – This is the Local Address Table; a list of IP addresses that the ISA considers “trusted”, or “internal” LDT – This is the Local Domain Table; a list of domain names that ISA considers internal LAT host – This is a computer that operates in the subnet that is defined in the LAT. All traffic to and from this host is NAT-ed through the ISA ISA Clients: SecureNAT – This a LAT host that has a default route through the network to the ISA as its only means of Internet communication. In a simple network (no routers), this client has the ISA primary internal IP as its default gateway. In a comp

Shut down Lion Server 10.7.5 (on a 2011 Mini Server) today after Time Machine got itself in a tizzy and failed to backup for several hours while claiming it was "stopping" (presumably unrelated to problem, just the why of restarting it.) Shut down hung - after 15 minutes or so I powered it off. When it came back up, there was a red ball at the right of the username box with a nastygram indicating that network accounts were not available. Logged in the local administrative user - when trying to get to LDAP from workgroup manager "The node .LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 couldn't be opened because an unexpected error of type -14006 occurred" is the helpful, friendly response. Server Alerts indicates self-signed certificates expired. Offers to repair/recreate. Doesn't seem to help. Reboot after that - still doesn't seem to help. Presumably the problem occurred at first reboot after they expired; That does not actually seem to be true however, looking at the expiry dates. Server has rebooted many times and LDAPv3 has been happy up until today. This topic at AFP548 (first I've heard of that forum) seems related, but applyin
