In the Joomla backend, go to: System (top menu) >> System Information >> Directory Permissions Make sure all files and folders apart from the global configuration.php are writable. If they aren't, then you will need to change the permissions, so that all folders are set to 755 and files are set to 644. You can either do this using an FTP client such as FileZilla or a Joomla extension such as Admin Tools. If you have already done this, then make sure you have defined your log directory correctly, as sometimes the path to the logs folder may be incorrect. To check/change the path, in Joomla backend, go to Global Configuration and then choose the Server tab and check if the Path to Log folder is correct. Also, note that you can download the Joomla update package and upload it to the root of your website and extract it rather than use the Joomla u

Access the root folder where you installed Joomla, there you will locate a file with name "configuration.php". Open the file and change the following lines with the new path of logs and tmp folders: public $log_path = '/path/to/the/joomla/logs'; public $tmp_path = '/path/to/the/jooomla/tmp'; Also please check the permissions of the above folders when modifying. In CentOS I changed the permissions of logs/error.php to 666 then it works. share|improve this answer edited Mar 16 at 15:43 Chin 3,855144891 answered Aug 5 '15 at 16:43 malajisi 688610 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote It is easy to resolve. Access configuration.php using FTP or cpanel. Edit directly in cpanel or download it to your computer using ftp. Edit the Log and Tmp paths to .../log and .../tmp respectly. That solves it. Get back on Joomla backend to verify by Accessing System>>System Information>>Directory Permissions. Hope that helps. share|improve this answer edited Mar 15 at 23:58 answered Mar 15 at 23:39 Odudu Udocox 112 add a commen
