I was successfully going to install the Ultima version but at the last boot I got a big red ERROR message on the screen and a "can not open c:\recovery.dat" message and I can't access the OS, just restart, with sam eloop :(I have read that to solve this problem must delete the recovery http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/can-not-open-file-crecoverydat/4356b25e-41cd-4e7a-8847-56703fbbffce partition, make a new one and install again, but i don't want to delete the recovery partiton just in case I sell the laptop.SO my question is how can I solve this "can not open c:\recovery.dat" message without deleting the recovery partion and if there's no other solution but that, can I recreate that partition by myself? I only have the recovery dvd. Thanks for help! Use the Recovery DVD to restore your computer to the factory settings. Boot your computer into Vista Home premium. Put the Vista Ultimate installation DVD into the DVD drive. The installation will be started automatically. Select “Upgrade” and the Vista will be upgraded to Ultimate version smoothly. Good luck!! One more difficult task for you: what if I want to install a "better" version on Windows Vista, like TinyVista for example, where the upgrade files are removed?? I get stuck in that big red ERROR message anytime... Edit Reply Quote & Reply Ranger78 Member Posts : 27 Level : Tech Points : 46 From: Italy Posted:6/25/2009 8:52:00 PM # 4 I can install Windows XP 64 bit from boot, but I can not find good video driver and there's always a black flick sometimes across the screen ... And many features don't work, like express gate, spendid video... That's why I want Vista, but not that heavy crap, just the light version... Edit Reply Quote & Reply Ranger78 Member Posts : 27 Level
"ERROR" message because "Can not open file C:Recovery.dat" Discussion in 'Hardware' started by RommelTJ, Dec 29, 2009. RommelTJ Private E-2 I was messing with my ASUS N10j and I tried to http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/red-error-message-because-can-not-open-file-c-recovery-dat.206742/ install Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit on it. Installation went fine, but then when it wanted to boot up for the first time, it gave me a window that said "Can not open recovery.dat" and a http://win7-error-cant-open-recovery.blogspot.com/ huge red ERROR message appeared in the middle of the screen. From googling, these guys (http://www.overclock.net/windows/435626-error-recovery-dat.html) believe its because of a hidden recovery partition. Well, how do I delete that partition if I don't have access cannot open to Windows? The laptop also doesn't have a DVD-drive, so the solution has to be via USB. I have no clue what to do. Help! EDIT: Ugh... I guess this is more software related... Sorry. Last edited: Dec 29, 2009 RommelTJ, Dec 29, 2009 #1 Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title! Greetings, RommelTJ... I'm familiar with Linux, but I didn't try it before because I didn't want to download it. As for the second suggestion, I don't know of anyone who can lend me a USB DVD Drive. (Other than repair shops, of course :-D) I tried installing Windows by creating an ISO image from a DVD I had, and then
lot of people including me are having this problem when upgrading other windows to Windows 7. I had spent a lot of time searching the best and easiest way to resolve. I found a lot of forums giving tips and answers but most of them are not that easy to apply plus telling you to remove/format the Recovery Partitions, to send to the ASUS center to resolve and so on. Actually the below I described is a very easy way to resolve without losing your Original Windows License or affecting your recovery disk. After a few more surfings I got a very nice and simple tip from This Site which is very short and neat. But it will not be easy for those who are not yet having experiences in windows installation. Therefore, I am now giving a detail step by step way to resolve it with screen-caps. Please refer below.BUMP!!!This is the Red Error Message you are so scared. Well, do not worry. Let's walk a bit further.========================================================(1) Force shut-down by Pressing Power Key for 5 Sec to restart your computer or any other way to restart your computer to get to the (2). Please do not remove your Windows 7 Installer or insert Windows 7 Installer if removed. You will have to run the installation setup.(2) >> Click "Repair your computer" (the purpose is to get to "Command Prompt" area)>> Restore computer and Next>> Click "Cancel" to cancel Restoration which we do not need it here.>> Select a system image >> then "Next">> Click "Cancel" again.>> Click "Command Prompt">> bootsect.exe /nt60 ALL /mbr>> press Enter>> Here you see "Successfully Updates">> Close Commend Prompt>> Click "Restart" to restart your pc. Now you will see Windows 7 restarts normally. This is a successful move. You now reach to Windows 7 without seeing the RED ERROR alert.Easy.. Simple.. Right.. Please leave a comment if it is useful for you or not. Thanks..Have a Great Day.========================================================= Posted by Paulina Pauline at 12:36 AM 117 comments Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest Labels: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Feq_fScChAs/TKoBmzzSDFI/AAAAAAAAAe4/ih86DQ6KTU4/s320/win7-error4.jpg Home Subscribe to: Posts (Atom) Followers About Me View my complete profile Awesome Inc. template.
