It combines graphical-user-interface (GUI) and few other software development programs. It is used in as a Database Management System by most of the MNC’s and big organizations. But it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t throw error message. “Cannot open database” It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. This is the most common error that is found http://msaccess.filerepairtool.net/blog/fix-access-open-database-error by the Access users. Take practical example: I am not doing anything out of the standard of importing data, and running a few queries. It works find for a little while, but then it decides to give this message. (Cannot open database ". It may not be a database your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.) I am not doing anything but importing a text file, trying to export a text file from a query or table, trying to append data from one table to another etc. Once this error happens the database being use becomes useless and no amount of compacting and repair seems to help. I have worked with this application for 10 years and never seen this happen. I tried a re-install and still no luck. And if I close access and reopen it , sometimes it works fine then but sometime it gives cannot open error again. Please advise Jun 15 '10 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 6 Replies Expert 100+ P: 931 patjones I would take a cue from the error message and first consider corruption as a possibility. A simple remedy for this is to open a new (blank) Access database, import all of your objects (forms, reports, queries, etc.) into this new database, and see if the problem still persists. If it does, then at least cannot open database you can eliminate corruption as a possibility. Pat Jun 15 '10 #2 reply P: 21 sarah2855 How can I export all the forms, tables, queries and reports all together? Jun 15 '10 #3 reply P: 21 sarah2855 I exported that problematic query to blank database as you said, and it worked perfectly fine. Thanks But I still don't know how to export ALL of my objects in one shot. Please advise, Jun 15 '10 #4 reply Expert 100+ P: 931 patjones In the new file, you'll do External Data > Import... if you are using Access 2007. Earlier versions of Access have a menu option somewhere for bringing external data or objects into the current file. Anyway, a dialog will come up allowing you to navigate to the old file and select it. When you do, you'll just select everything in the list that comes up and import it all. If it is a corruption issue, which does happen from time to time with Access, this should fix it. Pat Jun 15 '10 #5 reply P: 21 sarah2855 You're awesome, I did imported all the objects, and it's working perfectly fine now. Thanks a lot for you fast help. Sorry, but we've failed to find the right ADO connection string params to open such databases. You can try to connect to your database using the "Generic OLE DB Connection" type. This will let you vary the ADO connection string params. If you'll find the right string, please let us know. Is it?
