Server Analysis Services instance? Solution There are several reasons why we cannot connect to a SQL Server Analysis Services instance remotely. Each of those issues may happen at different https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc917670.aspx layers of the OSI model. While the troubleshooting process outlined below is not intended to make you a network engineer, it would help you understand how to isolate the issue for better resolution. The process also applies to any service or application hosted on a remote machine or on the Internet. Start with TCP/IP connectivity Because SQL https://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/3697/troubleshooting-common-sql-server-analysis-services-connectivity-issues/ Server Analysis Services rely on TCP/IP for remote connectivity, it uses a combination of IP address and port number for both identification and connectivity. The IP address identifies the server in the network running the SQL Server Analysis Services instance while the port number identifies a logical connection to the specific application or service (there are many applications and services running on a server; a port number is a way to identify how to connect to those specific services). To test TCP/IP connectivity, we can use the PING and TELNET utilities (the TELNET client isn't enabled by default on modern Windows operating systems and has to be added by following the steps outlined in this Microsoft TechNet article). You can test TCP/IP connectivity using the PING command by passing either the server name or the IP address. You can start with the IP address to verify if there is indeed connectivity, followed by the server name to verify IP address-to-server name resolution. A response from the server means

When I connect via one user its fine, but when I log on to the same machine as another user I get an error in my excel spreadhseet - "user...does not have access to the [Cube name] database" Obviously the first user has the correct permissions, but how do I set up analysis services to allow other users to join the party? sql-server olap business-intelligence ssas share|improve this question asked Jan 8 '10 at 16:04 AJM 12k38120205 add a the report server comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Login to the machine with an account that is an administrator (Domain\CubeAdmin) on the cube. Connect to the cube in BIDS (run devenv.exe and open Analysis Services Database). Under Roles, create a reader role and in the Membership tab, add the user account (Domain\NewUser). All this will only work if the SSAS Server Administrator gives the Domain\NewUser access to the server. share|improve this answer answered Jan 8 '10 at 16:16 Raj More 29.8k1786155 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote The Windows user accounts that you are trying to access SQL Analysis Services with need to be added to the Roles in the Cube that would allow the permissions you want. If you are connecting over HTTP using msmdpump.dll through IIS you need to turn on Authentication for that site and allow the Windows user account to access the site. If the IIS site using msmdpump is on another machine and you aren't using a domain then the accounts would need to exist on both servers with the same password. share|improve this answer answered Jan 8 '10 at 16:18 duckworth 3,67231732 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I know this is old but for other's reference, I had to repair the MS Office install to resolve a connectivity issue with SSAS. The user was added to the role, but the
