Cannot Open Compiler Intermediate File Permission Denied
files while compiling up vote 1 down vote favorite I find increasingly now when I am building a large project, I get the following error. fatal error C1083: Cannot open compiler intermediate file: 'C:\Temp\SYS\a03132ex': Permission denied It occurs in Visual Studio 2003 and VC6, and I have investigated the potential MSDN reasons and drawn a blank. There is plenty of space on the hard disk, and fatal error c1083 cannot open compiler intermediate file no such file or directory not that many other programs open that I should be running out of handles. Any ideas, or is it time to re-install windows again. I'm running XP SP3 by the way, and have two large NTFS hard disks with very many files. Edit: the name of the temp file changes, and I have cleared out the entire c:\temp folder. visual-c++ visual-studio-2005 vc6 compiler-construction share|improve this question edited Jan 8 '09 at 23:08 EvilTeach 16.6k1660120 asked Dec 31 '08 at 12:52 Shane MacLaughlin 14.8k762120 are you running as an administrative user? or a limited user? –EvilTeach Jan 8 '09 at 23:09 Can you use windows explorer to create a text file in c:\Temp\SYS? –EvilTeach Jan 8 '09 at 23:10 @EvilTeach, running as an Administrator and can manually create the files. The problem is intermittent which leads me to suspect it is handles related or possibly a time-out if the OS is doing something else with the file system. –Shane MacLaughlin Jan 9 '09 at 7:31 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote I seem to remember from somewhere deep down memory lane

Submitted by vishal on Thu, 01/17/2013 - 11:43 Note: Applies to RTI Connext 4.x and above. When using Visual Studio to build the project files generated by rtiddsgen, you may see the following error message:[source file name]:fatal error C1083: Cannot open compiler generated file:[object file name] is generated. The error is due fatal error c1083 to the fact that Visual Studio can compile multiple projects at one time. The generated sample solutions contain two projects that use common files. It is common for instances of the compiler to attempt to reference the same file at the same time.To avoid running into this problem, you can do one of the following steps:Do not build the entire solution. Instead, build each application separately.Configure Visual Studio to set the maximum number of parallel builds to one (1): Select Tools, Options. In the Options dialog, expand Projects and Solutions, select Build and Run. Set the maximum number of parallel project builds to 1.Add a dependency between the projects in the .sln file: In the solution explorer window, right click the solution, select Project Dependencies. In the Project Dependencies dialog, set one of the projects to be dependent on the other.
