'localhost' (10061) up vote 32 down vote favorite 15 I recently installed MySQL 5 on Windows 2003 and tried configuring an instance. Everything worked fine until I got to "Applying Security settings", at which point it gave me the above error (Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)). I do have a port 3306 exception in my firewall for 'MySQL Server'. mysql localhost mysql5 windows-firewall share|improve can't connect to mysql server on 'localhost' (10061) windows 7 this question edited Dec 29 '13 at 8:33 Ian Gregory 3,65611942 asked Sep 23 '08 at 3:52 Cameron A. See the 'GRANT' syntax documentation. Here's an example (from some C source). "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON %s.* TO '%s'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY '%s'"; That's the most common access problem with MySQL. Other than that, you might check that the user you have defined to create your instance has full privileges, else the user cannot grant privileges. Also, make sure the mysql service is started. Make sure you don't have a third party firewall or Internet security service turned on. Beyond that, there's several pages of the MySQL forum devoted to this: http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?11,9293,9609#msg-9609 Try reading that. share|improve this answer edited Feb 14 '14 at 6:54 Sathish D 2,9561628 answered Sep 23 '08 at 3:58 Chris 3,0141415 add a comment| Did you find this question interesting? The easiest way to achieve this is Goto /bin/ Run mysqld (service) close the cmd prompt Run mysql.exe or the better way to do is add the location to PATH environment Variable Thanks share|improve this answer answered Aug 13 '13 at 5:05 debiansse 32728 2 My problem was that the mysql service wasn't running. Log In to Comment 1 Answer 0 ryanpq MOD January 8, 2015 By default MySQL will listen for connections only from the local host. To enable remote connections like the one used by mysqlworkbench you will need to modify your /etc/my.cnf and change bind-address 127.0.0.1 to bind-address 0.0.0.0 or simply comment out the line completely. Once this is done, restart MySQL with the command service mysql restart and you should be able to make your connection. Reply Log In to Comment Have another answer? Share your knowledge.
